Nitrofurantoin Mcr
UpdatedHumana Prescription benefit Plan told me they will not cover this drug anymore as it is high risk for older patients. What are these risks? I have been taking 100mgs'day for about a year now due to kidney infections from kidney stones and an abcess. I take it as a precaution ( prophylactic) and have not had any problems since.

It has been found that all of its side effects are more pronounced and common in the elderly, in addition it creates the risk of pulmonary fibrosis.

In this case, it is probably best to speak to your doctor about using an alternative medication.
