Nitrofur Mono Macro Skin Rash Or Irritation??

I woke up with a horrible bladder infection on Monday of last week, I went to the doctors and they gave me a perception for nitrofur mono macro. I started taking it the following day, (Tuesday) .. By Friday evening I noticed a small rash on my inner right thigh. I didn't think anything of it because I had shaved my legs earlier that day and I thought it was just a little bit of razor burn.. As the night went on, the once a quarter size rash turned into about a 4 inch in diameter circle in the same spot.. I also has a small rash that looked exactly the same behind each knee and a smaller circle on the other thigh. Along with a patch of it on each upper arm, the size of the front of my whole upper arm, all of the rash spots were itchy.. So I called and had my doctor change my prescription and I haven't taken this pill since. I took 2 benadrill the night I discovered the rash and it is now Monday and I still have the rash spots and they still itch. Why are they still there? Was it because of the medicine? When will they go away? Help???

There is a good chance that it was an allergic reaction to the Nitrofurantoin, some antibiotics can cause that in people that are sensitive to them.

And, unfortunately as I just discovered after having a bad reaction to Bactrim, it may take a week or more for that rash to completely go away.

As long as your doctor approves, continuing the Benadryl until it goes away is probably a good idea and they may need to prescribe a topical cream to help treat it.
