I started this medication last evening for a bladder infection. 'Haven't been on this before, and am experiencing headaches about an hour after taking it, and continues for a couple of hours or so. Plus I'm feeling sick to my stomach. I also noticed excessive thirst and urination. Today I drank 14 cups of water, and urinated fifteen times, and the night isn't even over. I also feel like I've been hit by a mac truck.

My advice to everyone who are experiencing side effects is to call your doctor's. Perhaps they will prescrbe something else.

I did, way back, and it is now noted in my patient record that I am not able to take this RX.

Nitrofur-macr 100mg. was prescribed to me for a UTI on Saturday the 18th. I've had 4 pills and really dreading taking the remaining ones. Very nauseous. don't have any headaches or any other symptoms. I've made sure to have food in the stomach. I sure hope it's working on the UTI because I'm about ready to throw the remaining pills out.

I am also on it for a bug in the urine and my stomach hurts worse and I feel horrible and I cannot tell what is causing what except the urine thing is worse. Thinking of maybe changing to Kelflex? Anyone know what drug works and no side effects. Wish they would do like the old days and give a shot in the butt.

I started taking this 6 days ago. Luckily I only have one more pill to take. I also have had a headache about an hour after taking the pill and have had a stomach ache since day 3. Frequent urination as well but I just assume that is because of the bladder infection. Wondering how long it will stay in my system after the last pill cause I really feel like the bladder infection isn't gone yet. Any thoughts?

I'm so sorry for how you are feeling but thank you for posting this. I was prescribed this for a bladder infection. I feel 10 times worse after 3 doses. My body feels like I was run over by a bus and I am extremely nauseous. There's no way I can take this for 6 more days so I called and they are giving me a sulphur drug instead.

The frequent urination is normal. If you have diarrhea ,then no, and you should call your doctor back. I had to stop taking this medication, as it was making me feel terrible. My doctor prescribed me Cephalexin , which seems to be agreeing with my body.

I am 21 and i just started takin nitrofur-macr and i am on my 3rd pill and i am constantly peein and having bowel movements since i started taking this and i feel like i got hit by a bus. Is this normal?

I am 31 and am taking it for a bladder infec, and I am also experiencing the same.... The headaches and slight nausea. I feel like I've had a headache non stop since I started taking it and I'm only on my 5th pill.

I have had the infection since 4/9, when I first noticed it starting ... saw the urologist last Thursday, and the culture came back this Monday. I stopped taking the RX, and called the doctor's office. They didn't see where any of the (increasing side-effects) were related to the RX ... they told me to contact my primary, and to have a culture done in two weeks. They also stated that the bacteria is resistant to the other drug I have used, but the bacteria this time is different than the other times ... I am 56 yrs old.

How old are you?

This medication has been known to cause severe side effects in people over 65, as they tend to be much more sensitive to it.

If that isn't the answer, some of the effects, such as the excessive urination, which would in turn cause the excessive thirst, might be due to the bladder infection itself.
