Both Nitrofurantoin and Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim are antibiotics, used to treat various types of infections, however, in many cases due to the type of bacteria that caused the infection, Nitrofurantion is the first choice for treating a UTI.

It may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and non-allergic skin rash.
