Nitazoxanide (alinia, Nodik)--effects

While in Central America I was afflicted with a parasite infestation which threatened to block the colon. When bright red blood was passed, I sought medical help and was prescribed Nodik (nitaxonanide). This, thankfully, cleared the problem immediately. The nitrous drug floods the system and is absorbed into the gut, but it is claimed that it is rapidly excreted. Some months later my blood tested high in nitrites (carcinogenic). Is this drug safe to use?

I'm sorry to hear about all that, I would be so terrified!

Based on my research, long term carcinogenic and toxicity reports haven't been conducted for Nitazoxanide so it's hard to know if that's what caused your blood test to show that it's high in nitrates. I read that less than 1% of patients discontinued therapy with Nitazoxanide because of an adverse event so it doesn't seem like a harmful medication. Were you around a lot of pollution of any sort while in Central America? Or do you live in an area where there would be lots of air born carcinogens?
