Nexium 40 Mg Equivilents

Is Pantoprazole sod dr 40 mg the same drug as Nexium 40 mg? My husband was given Nexium samples by the doctor but was prescribed the Pantoprazole. Thank you

Hi Barb,

From what I could gather, they appear to be completely different drugs that are used for similar purposes. My guess is that the doctor wanted him to sample the Nexium to see if he responded better to one or the other.

Nexium contains the active ingredient Esomeprazole &
Pantoprazole happens to be the active ingredient in and of itself; but both are classified as proton pump inhibitors.
