I live in New Jersey and with the resent changes in the Vicodin laws I am wondering I know you can no longer get refills but is there a restriction on the amount they can prescribe a month

Hello, Nancy! How are you? I understand your confusion and I'm happy to help.

And yes, there is also a limit on how much they can prescribe. Exceptions are only made for those that suffer intractable pain from a possibly fatal condition, such as stage 4 cancer. But for everyone else, the reasons why it can be prescribed, how much can be prescribed and how often it can be prescribed to be dosed are all restricted.

Additionally, since it is now a schedule 2 medication, most PCPs cannot prescribe it, except in certain specific circumstance. Most people needing it will have to see a specialist.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is there anything else I can help with?
