New Here And Have Questions
UpdatedHi! Was on methadone for years and just not helping anymore so dr. put me on morphine 15mg er and 10mg oxycodone. First, isn't the morphine supposed to help on it's own? I see lots of people stating they are taking something else along with the morphine. If I'm taking both how will I know what is working? Also, I see my dosage is pretty low I guess the dr. has to start from the bottom and work up the ladder to find a comfortable dose, but, here comes the question again is how will I know what's working? AGGHH Thank you

Hello, Tracey! How are you?
The Morphine ER should be prescribed instructing you to take it regularly and the Oxycodone only to be taken as needed, rather than all the time on a schedule. Thus, if the Morphine controls all your pain, you'll know and you won't need to take the Oxycodone. However, it is there for you to take, if you find the Morphine isn't handling all your pain.
Occasionally needing one or two of the Oxycodone would be considered normal, because there may be times your pain is more intense and breaks through the Morphine, but if you need it all the time, then that would mean that the current dose of Morphine isn't working for you.
The FDA classifies these medications as being narcotic analgesics, so they carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation.
Is there anything else I can help with?
