New Warning And Precautions From Fda
UpdatedMy wife has been taking Multaq for 9 months. In January, she was hospitalized with renal failure and treated with IV's. Multaq was suspended upon admission. Her kidney functions returned to normal after four days at which time she was discharged. Multaq was again started. Several days later, she began to have problems again which were confirmed to be the return of renal failure. Here is the FDA Warning and Precautions on Multaq as issued in January of 2014: fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/SafetyInformation/ucm243762.htm
Hopefully, this will be of assistance.

This is a further update on my wife's situation since she has stopped using Multaq. It has now been 8 days since she has taken it and she has now developed an appetite, increased energy level and personality that was lost during her taking the drug.
I would encourage anyone who is taking Multaq to closely monitor their creatinine levels which should remain between 0.6-1.3 mg/dL. At the point she was admitted to the hospital they were 9.2. In addition, be very careful to keep hydrated. Signs I noted prior to her hospital admission were changes in personality, very tired, no appetite and diarrhea.
Hello, Marv! I am very sorry about what happened to your wife. How is she doing, now?
Thank you so very much for posting this warning or others, it could save some people ill effects.
Hi Verwon,
She is doing much better. She still has problems, but seems to be improving after being off the drug for the last 11 days. Thank you for asking.
Hopefully, others will not have the same experience, as it was very, very difficult for my wife.
Marv
I have had atrial fibrillation for several years and got worse in 2016 with A Flutter. The doctor put me on coumadin the first of June 2016. I have taken it years ago and it always destroyed me and I had to stop taking it. This time the negative effects started right away with extreme tiredness and brain and body disorder.
The doctor was going to place a watchman in the appendage of my heart to stop the possibility of strokes. I survived the coumadin by doing things that lifted my endorphins and spirits such as sitting in the sun, watching movies. I began working again on writing grants by focusing on my mind instead of my screwed up brain. I am a reader and I lost all interest in reading. Terrible condition.
The watchman was placed with no problems and healed properly. I went off the coumadin 45 days later and stopped last Monday, November 28, 2016. I feel much better, however...
I have been taking Multaq for three months and now that the coumadin has left my system, I am extremely tired, as I was taking coumadin. I cannot focus on anything, and I wake up in the morning exhausted. It is the Multaq causing the tiredness according to my research. I have to continue to take the Multaq in order to survive.
The doctor suggested Tikosyn but the problem is the prices in the US. Multaq costs up to $600 a month in the US. I bought the same medication from a Canadian pharmacy for $125 a month. Tikosyn costs even more and the Canadian pharmacies stopped carrying it in 2013, so I cannot afford to buy the Tikosyn.
I cannot work, my personality is bad, and I have no energy. Are there any solutions to this situation?
Thank you.
