New User, Concerned
UpdatedHi all. I started Topamax two days ago after much hesitation (scary side effects). I had severe migraines from age 17 to about 50ish (I'm 61 now) then they subsided to an occasional migraine and low grade cronic headaches that had about the same duration as the former migraine pattern. Not as debilitating but exhausting nontheless. After struggling with rebound headaches in addition to the real ones, my primary doc recommended Topamax and also suggested that it might, possibly have a positive effect on tremor and weight loss (fingers crossed). I'm also on an anti-depressant and thyroid med if that makes any difference with Topa. So, after two days I'm concerned enough to stop taking it. I'm not concerned about the fog, tingles or numbness, I've read here in the forums that that can be relieved with fluid intake.
What I AM concerned with is an inability to focus on and retain content when reading (I just kind of drift away) and also a general feeling of unease and, for lack of a better description, the twitchies. Also, are feelings of pressure in my head normal with this drug? I was ready to stop taking it this morning (I started taking the initial dose at night) but hate to give up already. Are these things just initial side effects that will go away with time or are they just a way of life on Topamax.
Thanks for you help!

How long have you been taking it?
Side effects generally hit their peak at around 4 to 6 weeks, as your body adjusts to the medication and then they start to taper off.
If they still continue after that time period, then you should speak to your doctor, because it may not be the right medication, or dosage for you.
