I started getting severe headaches back in high school. my migraines started in college, especially post college. I am almost 25. I was prescribed Maxalt to get rid of my migraines at first which did not help at all. my neurologist would up my dosage and to say the least, it was like tylenol. it did nothing. Relpax was like my miracle drug. my issue was that over the past year or two, my migraines worsened and because you're not supposed to take relpax more than twice a day or three times a week, I felt that taking a daily pill would be the best option. I've been on Topamax for 2 weeks now and have seen a significant difference in my migraines. My work environment has been extremely stressful especially in the past couple of days and usually I would be coming home with a migraine and would need a relpax, instead I'm fine. I def see the side effects, though. I have no appetite. I haven't seen a significant amount of weight lose, though. I'm 5'4 and started at 135 lbs. I'm 132 now so not much difference there. Like everyone else, I read a lot of articles and forums, I did my research. The side effects are startling but my thinking was take Topamax for a month, see how dramatically it reduces my migraines and if I see a difference, take it from there but if the side effects are too harmful that it doesn't make it worth it, stop. I'm going to stick with it, though. so far, I'm happy.
