New Subutex Laws (Page 10)
UpdatedI went to see my doctor this week and he told me that the FDA and the DEA had passed a new law for prescribing Subutex. As of July 1st 2015 Subutex can only be given to pregnant woman or to someone with documentation saying they can't take Suboxone. If you don't have that you will be put on Suboxone.
Hi everyone, I'm not going to compare one person's pain to another, everyone is different when it comes to how much pain is tolerant. What is a 6 for one person might be an 8 on a 1-10 scale for another person. It's basically between you and your Dr. to manage it. Pain meds are a great way to have somewhat of a quality of life. I have a friend that went to his Dr. this past week, and he got what he's been taking for quite sometime. No reduction. We see different doctors in the same area. Central Florida. We've been taking the same meds for pain, his Dr. kept him on morphine er 60mg. twice daily and Diludid 8mg for break through. My Dr. on the other hand reduced my morphine from the 60 mg.tabs to 30mg. a few months back. So knowing this, it can't be law. I see my Dr. Tuesday, and will ask for an adjustment. Keep my diludid the same, 1-8mg. four times daily. I just want the morph's back where they were. I just can't see why there should be any problem. I know the DEA & FDA monitors pain management doctors
But don't think that is out of their guide lines. I'd really hate to switch doctors, I've been an established patient for a long time. And changing could be risky. Plus they do a real good job in the front office, if my appointment is 9:30am. I'm usually out of their by 10:00, go to my pharmacy, and home before noon.
Lets hope doc didnt run into issues with too many meds out there.. In my area they're making them thin out how many patients they can have also...good luck.
Mayb your doc seen an issue as to not giv u boxin...it is a true statment my doc discussed it with me in jan...it will be nationwide by mid year.
What state are u in? I go to the methadone clinic and have to go every single day and I've been dealing with this pain for a while. Got kicked out by my doctor for a dirty U/A and I was looking to get put on subutex so if you could help me out please I would appreciate it.
No Tennessee does not we have the same new law just hasn't fully passed
Tim, the FDA Guideline of 120 mg Morphine/Morphine Equivalent Daily is not a law. But, most drs are following it like it is.
Can you get a letter documentation from your nurse practitioner ?? Yeah I was on the strips of suboxin and it made me so irritable my headaches my migraines got lot worse and it just made me really really sick at the stomach ??
ROSEY: I'm not sure how it works with the new laws, but I would say get all the documentation you can. I used to be on Subutex; I couldn't take the Suboxone for the very same reasons you state. My doctor started me on Suboxone, and I had headaches and stomach problems for a week. (I already had documented migraines and nausea issues with this doctor) I called the doc and told him what was going on, and he said it was most likely from the Naloxone. So he switched me immediately to the Subs, and the problem went away. Go to your doctor/NP and get that documentation. My doc just took my word for it, but I see that they are no longer doing that. So yes, get it DOCUMENTED for sure.
is that new law for all of united states or just the state you live in?
Rosey, a lot of people that prefer the Subutex are saying that the Suboxone makes them sick or they are allergic to it. Because of that most drs are saying that the Suboxone has to threaten the life of the person and that a dr has to have observed this and documented it. When someone has a life threatening reaction to something, they require immediate medical attention.
Hi everyone, I'm happy to say, my Dr. Adjusted my meds. We had a good talk a couple days ago at my monthly visit. He put me back in the 60mg. morphine up from the 30mg. I was taking the 60mg for a long time and about 5 months ago, he lowered it to the 30mg. due to pressure from the DEA and FDA. But there's no law that says he can't give me the 60mg. morphine twice daily and 4 - 8mg. Diludid daily. I can actually get up and have somewhat of a good day. Those of us that have to go to a pain management Dr. that insurance doesn't cover ($200 a month) it's a blessing to get the required dosage to keep my pain manageable. Fortunately my health insurance does cover most of the cost of scripts. And people that needlessly suffer, it's all about how to talk to your doctor. They are trained doctors and look for signs of abuse and addiction. They know that a good part of the meds they write scripts for are valuable on the street. And it's hard to say no when someone offers you $2,000. for a diludid script. But as far as the law goes, as long as the doctors have all documents of your pain issues in order, they can prescribe what ever they see fit.
Wow. For someone that is supposedly so educated as an LPN and what was the other a paralegal oh and let's not all forget the BS (oops) I mean the BA in phychology. Do you work much? Wondering how you could ever hold a job as a nurse with the lovely attitude you have towards others?Oh...I get it ..you will have to forgive me for being so slow I'm one of them. You know ( Addicts).
The messed up part is i just got told by my pharmacy today because I live in tn but my doctor is in nc that I can't get my meds filled there anymore without a nc drivers Liscense, that I would just not be able to get my meds, yet to pharmacies say they won't fill a prescription from another state, so what do I do?
DAVE: Can't you just take your prescription to a pharmacy in Tennessee?
What meds are you on? When my pharmacy is out I take mine to Walgreens. They are alway taking new people.
Dave , if you live in Tenn and you have a Tenn drivers license or state issued picture ID you should be able to get your prescription filled in Tenn.
I live in Georgia and I have a subscription for Subutex. My doctor never mentioned the fact the there was any law against prescribing it.
Hi Michael,
Yesterday I was on the verge of relapsing after 9mos clean from opiates. By Gods grace found an amazing woman who specializes in hormone therapy and also bupe! Turns out her brother and former business partner is in prison over opiates. Leading her to help those of us with that struggle. However due to suboxone cost and the strip giving me a bad headache she prescribed Subutex, which was 62.00 for 90 8mg. I'm nervous to take the first dose. What will I need to expect?
Dahma, there are no laws against prescribing Subutex in Georgia or any other state. BUT, your dr has to write a diagnosis on the prescription and if it is to treat drug addiction, your dr has to have special certification in order to prescribe it. In some states, a patient must fall within certain guidelines in order to be prescribed Subutex instead of Suboxone. If your dr doesn't not have the needed documentation that you meet this criteria, that may be the problem.
I took last pain pill yesterday and am nervous about taking first sub, what should I expect
