I started taking Sprintec late last week, so I dont have too long of an experience with it thus far. however, the night that I started taking it, almost immediately after I started my period. I had just had my regular period 2 weeks before. The bleeding on this period is INSANE. I havent bled this much since I was 16. the birth control that I was on before this (yaz) made it so that I only had a true period every 3 to 4 months, with spotting in between. My doctor changed me to Sprintec because the Yaz didnt seem to be working anymore the way that it should have.

my doctor warned me that it could be like this for about 3 months or at least until my body becomes used to this certain medication. The amount of bleeding I am having is just so unreal that I am concerned that it is not normal. For instance, the other morning I awoke to bleeding and upon standing, blood just started flowing down my legs. It looked like some awful scene from the movie Carrie haha. I have horrible cramps, and i am extremely nauseous. Not so much irritable or moody, but I definitely havent been able to sleep the way I want/need to.

Is this normal? Should I be concerned about the amount of blood coming out? Do I wait the 3 months before I contact my doctor and tell her that I do not think this birth control is working for me?

I have read a few other entries where people have had similar experiences.

HELP!!!

No, that heavy bleeding is definitely not normal and you should contact your doctor, now. It's likely that this isn't the right one for you to take.

Typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, include nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and PMS like symptoms.

Usually, the heavy bleeding like that is due to too much estrogens, so you probably need to take one with a lower amount of it.

Is there anything else I can help with?
