New On Methadone Maintenance Treatment And Need Help

Hi all. I am overcoming an H addiction and have been taking MMT for just over a week. The first week went great. Now, I cannot stop throwing up.

Here is what I have taken, I am administered the red/pink liquid:

- Last Monday (3/9) and Tuesday I was on 30mg (taken at 5:15 AM)
- Wednesday, Thursday, Friday I was on 40mg (taken at 5:15 AM)
- Saturday, Sunday, and Monday I was on 50mg (taken at 7 AM)
- and today (3/17) I was on 60mg (taken at 5:15 AM)

Yesterday I threw up about 6 times from 7:30 AM until noon. The first couple of times it was solid throw up, then all liquid vomit. Today I have thrown up 3 times and it has ALL been liquid vomit. I threw up once at 10 AM then twice within a 10 minute period at 1 PM.

I have not taken anything with my treatment; no slip up's or anything. I do not understand why I am all the sudden throwing up so much. Last week I felt so great with my treatment but yesterday and today have been a nightmare with throwing up so much. Am I moving up too fast on MG for MMT or does this sound like a virus and nothing to do with MMT? I have no other symptoms like a fever or body ache.

I hope someone with more experience with MMT can provide some or insight or help. Anything would be great. My treatment facility is closed until tomorrow morning.

Hello, Alecktra! How are you feeling? I'm sorry that you're so miserable.

Yes, it is most likely too high of a dose for you. When titrating you up, they can't really be completely sure how you are going to respond to it. The lack of other symptoms leads me to suspect that it isn't a virus, but you should check with your doctor to be sure.

However, if it is the Methadone, there is no harm in telling them that you can't take that high of a dosage and explaining how sick it made you.

The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I just started 30 mgs of methadone yesterday and I threw up 2 times,ate crackers this morning, took 30 msg and I've thrown up 4 times today and I'm sooooo sick. What happens and how long does this last? Plz help

When i got pregnant on the program i threw up all the time. Even just thinking or it. So the nurses and i figured out the suck on a mint or jolly rancher. Ans then if u feel nauseous still sit at ur clinic so if u puck the can see if ur pucking ur dose up and if u sre the vould re dose u. If u puck ur dose up dsily that could be the reson ur sick the rest of the day. They say if u can hold it down 15-20min u should be good. But always suck on a candy it not the same color as your med though. That way if u get sick the clinic can possably dose u again. Good luck.

I've been on methadone for a month inconsistently every other day..im at 55mg red liquid..i need to get clean in the next 10 days...im almost at my 48 hour mark with no done..i have suboxone but im scared to take it and go in to w\d..so ive been easing the withdrawals with H..so my plan is to ease the methadone w\d with H until its fully out of my system like 4 days..then im going to go cold turkey off H for a full day..then start my subs, this seems easier since the H only lasts about 8 hours before i start to w\d..and ive kicked H cold turkey in 3 days no meds...any advice would be useful..sorry for rambling but i just need to be off everything..i know this isnt the right way but its worked for others i know...any guidance would be greatly appreciated!!

My sister never threw up at all until taking liquid methadone .they would redose if they seen ya but she wouldn't until her peak time. One of the nurses said she was probably allergic to the dye maybe? They put her on the waffers n it helped immediately. Just a thought

Hello .... I have been going to a methadone clinic for about 5 years now. When I first started going there you were started at 30mg's then you were only allowed to go up 10mg's every 7days . I went up to 150mg's and stopped for about 6months. I then started to taper down off of the methadone...1mg. a week. I'm now at 90mgs. Now I'm trying to find a pain management doctor to put me on a methadone maintenance program for my daily pain....I am only in my late 30's and going on my 3rd major back surgery. I get no relief from taking my m-done once a day and I refuse to be on any other meds.But I have never been sick from the methadone...like your going through. I think that you were taken up on your dose way too fast...and I'm very sorry to hear that you get sick and it makes you vomit. I would try to talk with the doctor that prescribes this medication to you. I wish the best of luck to you and hope that you get better and I will keep you in my prayers!!

Hi, I just started going to the Methadone clinic here in Tacoma, Wa. on 11/1/17. I was originally prescribed large amounts of Morphine IR & SR PLUS OxyContin SR for over 15 yrs due to several chronic, debilitating medical conditions that are quite painful by themselves, let alone having many permanent conditions that are all very painful (Basically, I have pain 24/7 over most of my body). Anyway, in 2014, I was cut off my meds just for having marijuana in my system... And marijuana is legal here! Unfortunately, marijuana alone is not enough and I needed to figure out something for my pain.

If I can help anyone by answering questions or giving advice about the Methadone Maintenance Program or anything else related to this subject, please feel free to ask. If it weren't for this program, I would've never been able to get off opiates as easily as I did! No, it's NOT easy though, it takes commitment, dedication and a desire to get off opiates. If you don't have those things, you're not ready. I wasn't sure i could do it and I don't think I ever went more than 24 hrs without dosing in 3 years! So, it's not impossible, you're a lot stronger than you think! Heck, if I can do it, anyone can!
