Neuropathy And Pain

I have Huntingtons accompanied by neuropathy which is causing excruciating, widespread pain. My pain manager is telling me that in Tennessee they are being required to reduce patient's dosage. As my disease progresses the pain increases. As my disease symptoms increase the pain med dosage is decreasing and life continues to be quite the challenge. Does anyone know a good doctor or pain manager in my area?

Hello, Eric! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having.

However, that is true, they are required to reduce dosages of many patients, if they are currently taking more than a set amount each month. Thus, it's going to be the same, regardless of what doctor you go to and, due to other regulations that were also put in place, if you require controlled substances on a long-term ongoing basis, you'll have to see a pain management specialist. A general practitioner can no longer prescribe such medications.

Have you ever tried any of the non-narcotic options for nerve pain, such as Gabapentin?

It's an anticonvulsant that's helped many people with neuropathy. Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache and weight changes.

Can anyone recommend a good doctor in that area?
