He was diagnosed with dementia at least two years ago and his confusion and psychosis has progressively worsened. A nurse friend of mine told me I should immediately take him off the drug since her pharmacist advised her to do the same with her father whose psychotic behavior became worse when he started neurontin. She reports a remarkable improvement after he was off the drug three days. Should I try this and what are the risks? ## For anyone still seeking this information, since this medication works on brain chemicals, because it is an anticonvulsant, it should be slow...

i had to get off lithium from one day after 27 years because my kidneys were starting to get affected. i have now developed a tingling in my head so i did not start taking another medicine like daepakote for my bipolar. i saw a neurologist today and she told me to start taking neurontin because she feels it would take away this tingling but she said no side effects. i am seeing my psychiatrist Wed. so i am thinking of waiting to take it and check with her first. what does everyone thing? ## The first piece of advice I'd like to give you is to never let a doctor get away with telling you that any medication has no side effects. It is simply not true! They all carry the risk of causing side effects, even over the counter products. In her experience, it may not seem to cause problemati...

I was on neurontin for almost a year then I lost my balance one day and then my inner ear was destroyed from an inner ear infection and I lost part of my hearing and now walk with a cane because of loss of balance. This all came on so suddenly and now Im ruined for life and cant get an attorney to take my case even though the symptoms of neurontin that I have are stated in the side effects of neurontin by the company that makes it. The side effects are stated under the companys side effects. I also have constant dizziness. The Dr did brain surgery to cut the balance nerve in my brain that is connected to my inner ear to try to get the balance back but it did not work. It says that all my symptoms are the side effects of neurontin. The side effects I have are listed under special sensesi...
I have been on Neurontin for about 2 months now and it is helping my chronic pain, however... I am having terrible mood swings. I'm already dealing with depression and anxiety (which is currently untreated due to a ridiculous wait time for an appointment). I haven't been without pain for years and while i'm enjoying that, I'm ruining my life and friendships with my mood swings. Should I stay on it until I see a psychiatrist or should I stop taking them immediately. I am having SI that occur more than daily and i'm scared that one of these times it won't be an idea, but an attempt. Please help. ## I should mention that I'm only taking 300mg at bedtime. ## Based on my research, it certainly seems as though the side effects of Neurontin (Gabapentin) are directly...
Hi I am new to this drug starting on 100 mg 3 times a day because I have been getting terrible headaches. I was on ami for 4 months because of nerve pain , and that drug was sorting that pain out lovely. These headaches which are worse when I have been in bed for a few hours it wakes me up are so painful. Has any one experienced this before? I am waiting physio again and am off work for a week. Gp is sure its down to my neck. ## I forgot to say this was following a car accident in August where my car was hit from behind. I live in the UK ## Yes, if they are getting worse and/or waking you up, when you're laying down, it really does sound like something is out of alignment in your neck area. What type of pillow do you use, if any? If it is raising you up too high, or even not enough,...
I have been prescribed neurontin fo agonising nerve pain, especially in the cervical spine, following an injury to my back a year ago. I was put on 400mgs once a day and have been on them for a week now. I have all the expected side-effects, brain fog (or sludge), nausea, extreme tiredness, insomnia, loss of balance, depresssion and suicidal thoughts, constipation and inability to pee. There's been no effect on the terrible pain yet. Please don't advise me to 'see my doctor': I am stuck in a backwater of southern Europe (Greece) where there is no medical monitoring or help. Neurontin or Lyrica are the only drugs they'll give you for pain. What I want to know is, does it get better? When might it have an effect on the pain and when will the side effects wear off? Will...
I am extremely dizzy, have a very unsteady gait, and am finding the activities of daily life becoming a challenge. I stopped Neurontin 5 days ago after taking it for 8 days. How long will it stay in my system? ## It really shouldn't take too much longer, since you weren't taking it for that long. However, are you certain these symptoms have been caused by the medication? Have they eased up at all since you stopped it? ## I feel light headed and dizzy too. I was driving in my town and felt like I did not know where I was for a second or two. It was scary. I don't like this feeling at all. I took 6 of them,,,Will these show a false positive on a hair drug test? I took two a few months ago and had a test with no problem but I worry.. ## I was prescribed gabapentin for nerve pai...
I have been taking neurotin for 3 years. I take 800mg 3 times daily. I would like to know if shaking is a side effect. It started about 3 months ago. ## Hi Marlene, Interestingly enough, an "uncontrollable shaking of a part of your body" is listed as a side effect of Neurontin (Gabapentin). Ref: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a694007.html#side-effects This medication seems to have some pretty strange side effects, so I would play it safe and talk to your doctor if it becomes too bothersome or severe. I hope this info helps!
sealed neurontin shelf life ## The shelf-life should be mentioned on the label, as by law I believe it is mandatory. However based on my own research, shelf-life isn't always accurately depicted and could significantly vary depending on how the medication is stored. From what I could gather, it may be up to 2-5 years from the date of manufacture. I hope this info helps!
Is there a problem with weight gain taking neurotin? Also, I was told it is not a safe drug and has had several lawsuits. ## NEURONTIN FOR MOOD DISORDER ## You are for sure going to gain weight and NEVER feel full on it. Lyrica and gabitril are just the same also you will feel HOT like you are going to catch a fire. ONE NASTY MEDICATION ## I've taken both medications. The Neurotin didn't help at all but I've been on the Lycria for several months now. I've had minor weight gain but have never felt like I was going to catch on fire or even a hot flash. Both of these med's have been used for years. The best thing to do is speak with your doctor. ## The effects of drugs vary from person to person, there is no way of knowing if it will cause side effects or weight gain fo...

Is 5.5 days long enough to pass urine test? I see my PM mid-day this Thurs. Mid-day. I am Rx'ed for: 10mgPerc 5/6x/day, 4-5mg Klononpin/day, 30mgFlexiril/day, & 2700mg Neurontin (gabapentin)/day. I recently got a few OpanaER 20 mg, I've been Insullfating due to higher bioavailability. Since they're so strong I've only been taking between 5-max 20mg/day (& not sure if even ever took 20mg in 1 day). This has been since this past Monday. If I stop tonite(I posted on wrong forum, it's now Sat. Nite but I stopped last nite) will I pass Thurs (5.5+days)? I've read that Oxycodone shows also Oxymorphone so do I really even need to stop at all? Also, will my liver &/or kidneys processing the other Meds cause it to take longer? They use a cup with a peel off &a...
I was prescribed Neurontin for peripheral nerve pain in Dec.2008.I only took 2 100 mg. capsules, one per day for two days. The 3rd. day I feel very spaced out, disconnected from reality, developed poor short term memoryand got headaches in my fontal brain.I stopped the med right away but 16 months later I still become spaced out every day.My GP has sent me to some specialists for tests. These tests included a shrink(for the standard Alzheimers and dimensia test, results negative),a neurologist(again, memory tests and anEEG(results negative),a brain MRI(results negative),anti-depressant meds, all with no positive results.Mostly, these doctors, once they here my complaints, clam up and drop me like a hot potato!I know from researching the web that neurontin has resulted in many people commiting sui...
I took neurontin for approx 5 days - 100 mg for 2 days, 100 x 2 for 2 days and 100 x3 for 1 day. It was prescribed to me for post herpatic nerve pain related to shingles. In the middle of the night after my 5th day of medication, I woke to use to the bathroom. When I sat up in bed, I nearly fell over to the right side. After sitting for a while, I stood and walked, also staggering to the right side. I then had tingling and numbness in right arm, right side of face, lips. Went to ER and had CT Scan, MRI, echo, ekg, and neck vessel study, blood tests; and was admitted for observation. All tests negative. I thought I had a stroke. TIA cannot be 100% ruled-out, but I do not have any risk factors for stroke. I am 50 yrs old female, non-smoker, not overweight, have low -to-normal blood pressu...
What does. Nerotin look like??? ## Neurontin contains the active ingredient Gabapentin, which is an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain and mood disorders. It is available as both a name brand and generic, which means it is being manufactured by several different companies and in quite a few different doses, so I couldn't possible describe them all for you. However, if you can be more specific, like posting back to let me know if you want the details on the name brand, a certain generic by one manufacturer, or a certain dosage, then I will gladly find this information for you. Learn more Neurontin details here. Can you please post back with more details? Thanks!
if i take 1 pill how long will it take to get out of my system if i have restless or mania effects ## Gabapentin's (Neurontin) elimination half-life is 5 to 7 hours. From what I've heard, most medical experts agree that it can take roughly 5 half lives for a drug to be completely out of your system. For Gabapentin, this can mean that it may remain in your system for up to or around 35 hours after your last dose, which is relatively short compared to many other drugs. Gabapentin's most common side effects in adult patients include dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, weight gain, and peripheral edema (swelling of extremities); these mainly occur at higher doses, in the elderly. Other side effects such as insomnia, restlessness, agitation, anxiety, disorientation, confusion, light s...
has a D25 on same side is it a neurontin ## I located a white oblong pill with an imprint of "D 25" to be identified as Gabapentin (800mg). That said, no, it is not neurontin if this pill you are describing is white and oblong. Gabapentin is used primarily for the treatment of seizures, neuropathic pain, and hot flashes. You can view more details on the drug by following the link below: I hope this helps! Please post back if you have any other questions or additional information to add.
