Need Reassurance!

45 days, no cigarettes. Started Chantix Jan. 1, 2014. This is my third try with Chantix. Did quit smoking on the first 2 tries, once for 8 months another for 3 months, this was 6 years ago. I blamed the Chantix for my unhappiness and stopped taking it. Well, both times I did, I went back to smoking because I was so unhappy without smoking that I felt it's better to live a life of quality instead of each morning waking up and not caring if I got out of bed because I COULDN'T SMOKE. Okay, that was a short version of the past tries. This quit is much better. I'm taking .05 mg in the morning, if I feel I need more I take another one in the late afternoon. Okay, right now..no nicotine in my system whatsoever. I have changed all my places of smoking. Never smoked inside or in my car or at work, so that was pretty easy. Miss my cigarette with my coffee, but I've learned to handle that...I guess my only problem...is I MISS THEM SO MUCH. I loved smoking, liked sitting on my porch in the sunshine early morning with my coffee and a cigarette. Loved getting off work and taking that few minutes to just sit and do nothing. I know I can still do these things, but here at over 2 months, I am missing them so much that I cry, I get angry at myself, I start convincing myself that this isn't worth the unhappiness. I am wondering if it's useless to continue the Chantix, since I'm off the nicotine, etc. Will Chantix do more for me than just BLOCK the nicotine receptors and make cigarettes taste like your smoking hot air. Does chantix actually KEEP you from smoking after you've really quit? It doesn't seem to be helping my feeling blue. Which is what happened the last 2 x's I quit. I am allergic to wellbutrin, can't take it, but I have taken Lexapro for a number of years (10 mg). Any thoughts would help.

Hello, Nanci! How are you? I am very sorry about the problems that you're having.

Why are you trying to quit, when it's clear that you enjoy smoking and aren't ready to quit?

I mean smoking is dangerous, but if you aren't ready to quit and get this depressed over quitting, nothing is going to work to keep you away from them. That's just the pain and simple fact of the matter. It doesn't matter what quit strategy or medication is used, if you don't have the right mindset to quit, then this is going to keep happening.
