Need New Pain Dr. Long Island, N.y.
UpdatedThink I will need help quite soon. Does anyone see/know of Dr. in Suffolk or Nassau who might prescribe the pain meds I've been on for several years? Surgery might help one problem but can't afford the medicare co-pays (Try living on Long Island, N.Y. on 15,000 a year). I'm on disability - have a small house - can't sell and it will be liened if I applied for Medicaid. My present Dr. had a personal emergency and the office does not know if he'll be returning. Leaves me in a huge problem. I am presently on oxycodone, methadone, and diazepam for panic. If anyone knows of a good Dr. could you please let me know?? Doubt if I can afford pain management. Thank You.

I was contacted by the site to provide more details re: problem with pain Dr. I received a call from the office that the Dr. I see had "an emergency" and they didn't know when he'd be back if ever. Another Dr. works in that office and the receptionist said she would give him the list of my meds and call me back. No call. I've been calling frantically as I've been on these meds for years-he has my records and the office now doesn't answer the phone. I have no idea what to do. I can't just walk into a pain management place without proof of my problems and this is pt. abandonment and I have no idea what to do. An ER will not help-they'll think I'm just an addict and if I'm lucky give me a few pills and some pain management names. This is a nightmare-I live alone and don't have money for detox and they'd just give me some methadone while I'm there and discharge me. I can't believe this is happening-always had good relationship with Dr. and I can't find out what's going on. I'm in such panic. Again; live in Suffolk, N.Y. if anyone can help. Thanks.
Good luck to you. Not sure if its the same doc, was treated x10 yrs, he became very ill and never returned, the chronic pain clinic closed. I've worked my way through long, exhaustive lists from my primary care doc to my pharmacy. Most offices are not accepting new patients, some just out of business, others exclusively do joint injects. I'm highly allergic to something in the medium, can not have them. I've had surgeries years ago, all types of therapy, pain management with medications is all I have left as my general health now eliminates any more elective surgeries, would most likely not survive surgery at this point.
I'm nearly out of medication and truly, don't know what to do. I'm in Suffolk County and, apparently, those who need medication as the last and only recourse, are SOL. At this point, my future looks very bleak. Am not looking forward to spending the rest of my life bed-bound.
