Need Doctor Who Will Prescribe Methodone For Chronic Severe Pain.

I have a rare kind of polyneuropathy that affects my long nerves. I have had severe chronic pain for over 8 years. My pain doctor in Florida switched me from oxycontin to methadone because the oxycodone made it difficult to sleep. I recently moved to Mass. and so far the two doctors I've been to eliminated my breakthrough meds (oxycodone 30 mg. 4 times a day) and decreased my methadone from 140 mg a day (taken evenly in 10 mg a day) to 70 mg a day (10 mg. tabs throughout the day) and I am back to excruciating pain. I cannot work, eat a healthy diet, sleep, take care of my family, etc. Why don't any of these doctors realize that although there are risks related to taking opiates, that QUALITY of life is what is important to me? Do you know of any doctors in Mass. (Lowell area) that will prescribe an appropriate of of methadone so that I can function and not feel suicidal all the time? Also, I have never overdosed, been involved in any kind of criminal activity and never *craved* the drug, I just need it to function.

Hi everyone, I'm in need of a doctor that can prescribe methadone in southern CA. I have been on my medication (methadone) for years now and my doctor that i was going to is. Renewing his liscense and he told me it will take awhile and now I'm totally stuck and in soooo soooo much pain so anyone PLEASE HELP! Thanx

U can go to aMethadone clinic.i live in Nj and I go to a Methadone clinic I am on 140 mg and I can not live without it I will never go back to pills or patches they don't work no where near as good as Methadone ! Just find a clinic call and get in or get on their waiting list

Hi Augie,try a methadone Clinic and explain to them.They can't prescribe for pain but it helps the pain.I'm on 150 MG's.a day of methadone and its wonderful. Just tell them ur addicted.

I would thank God for the 70 mgs of Methadone in this dictatorial society we live in now. I would venture to say that in August of 2015 you are probably given only 25 mgs. daily and bedridden in a fetal position.
I will not mention my macabre story.
If I were you, move to California{somehow}as I am attempting to do at this time.
Intractable Pain Law sb 402. You best have a detailed,documented history or do not bother.

Inpain-you won't drive an hour to your old doc? Are you unable to drive? I would go back to your original doc. An hour is nothing, but then again an hour to me living outside a huge city, seems like 3 hours to some.

Hi there! So sorry to hear about your pain, I live in MN, but I know every state has methadone clinics you can go to. I apologize if you have already talked about this, but I go to a methadone clinic and the one downside is you go every day because it is in liquid form, but its so worth it because my pain is instantly gone. All I had to do was talk to a counselor about why I needed the methadone and the next day I was all set to start my dose. You start at 20mgs which since methadone is extremely strong is a pretty strong dose already. Then every 2 days you can go up 5 mgs until you reach the amount that you think is good for you. I realize you may not wanna be around former drug users, but to be honest they are probably the nicest people I've met. I've made a lot of friends from the clinic since you go everyday and it opens at 5:30 am, so its actually a nice way to start my morning and makes me get out of bed and start my day. I have very extreme depression and I found this helped tremendously with that also. You can even qualify for free rides everyday if you can't afford the gas. It has changed my life and I have been on it for a year and a half and I'm on 50 mgs which is perfect for me. I'm sure your state has a lot to choose from, so just go online and find the one closest to you, its so nice not having to see a doctor every month and have to worry if hes gonna lower my dose or tell me I have to go somewhere else. This place I go in, they scan my card and I'm good to go! Hope this helps, good luck :)

Have you found a pain dr yet? I too, am a chronic back pain pt whose dr had to have back surgery himself and therefore I am now without a dr, out of meds and am experiencing not only intense pain but add withdrawl sympotoms to the pile. I have been kept comfortable for 16 yrs with 4 oxycodone 10/325 and 6 (10mg) methadone per day and now I feel like complete dirt!!! I cant even stand the thought of getting up to use the restroom because it is just going to HURT!!! I hope you have found someone in the area and could suggest a name that I could call and get appt. I have followed a contract to the letter.... never had a bad drug panel, just feeling so lost and worthless right now. I have kids who aren't used to seeing their mom in such pain and unable to do things with them. I truly hope you have found a new doctor not just to help me but also hopefully you are now pain free of at least in less pain than before. Any help appreciated.

I am looking for a pain doctor in the richmond va . My doctor retired. I do have cronic pain to do nerve damage. Does anyone know have any pain doctors out there.

Who says 30 mg's daily methadone for patient unable to handle pai? The government,the DEA...no one cares about people suffering! I empathize with you .... i have severe nerve damage in my back and right leg from 2 failed spinal surgeries the last one - 12 years ago - put me in a coma, severed artery in right leg, and while they were trying to dig my severed artery from my right leg they permanently overstretched the nerve down my right leg resulting in permanent excruciating nerve pain -- treated with Beaumont Hospital in Detroit area and got my methadone and neurontin meds (for me both meds were need to activate pain relief -- but unfortunately I recently moved hour away from Beaumont to a small town and I've been having ahell of a time dealing with adirector of a supposedly "pain clinic" who accused me of being a "drug addict" and after 2 months I'm still fighting with him to provide me with proper meds -- he's the head of a Pain Clinic up here, and why he's never heard of this treatment is unbelievable .... I see him again incouple days if he still won't provide me with what gets me out of paiin I'll have to find another doctor,, but I think it's going to be very difficult because of the mindset of these "professionals"

I have tried neurontin but my doc took me off it and put me on Lyrica. My pain doctor took me all the methodone. It's not working. All I can do now is walk to the bathroom that is in my bed. I used to have some quality of life. Now I have none. If this is what the rest of my life is going to be, I don't want to live anymore.

HI, Mimi! I'm very sorry that you're suffering and miserable.

But doctors have been severely restricted now in how much of a medication that can prescribe, unless someone has a terminal illness, such as cancer that's causing pain.

And going by the general dosage guidelines, Methadone for pain is supposed to be given in a maximum dose of 10mgs up to 3 times a day, but some exceptions are made to allow for more frequent administration, so giving you 7 of them a day is generous under these guidelines.

I really wish I had better news to give you, but the DEA crack downs have made it hard for many chronic pain sufferers to get the relief they need.

Have you tried any of the other types of medications that can help with nerve pain, such as the anticonvulsants?
