Need A Chronic Pain Doctor
UpdatedI live in Jasper, Alabama and have been on methadone for 15 years. It's the only thing that's helped during my chemo or when my ruptured disc are bothering me. The doctor I had just up and left and left all his patients hunting a new doctor. Does anyone know a doctor in or around Jasper or Birmingham that I can see that writes Methadone?

Really, your best bet is to see a new doctor and make sure they get your medical records, so they can speak for themselves.
Asking a doctor to prescribe a specific medication is often seen as being drug seeking behavior.

Does anyone else have any suggestions to offer?
Yeah, I'd definitely move from the deep South as fast as possible. Sorry about the comment Florida sounds like your closest bet to find an outpatient treatment center for a daily dose of methadone. You might find a clinic somewhere in New Orleans or Texas, maybe even a Dr. that might care enough to write you a perscription. But to be honest things like this I think are considered a little to liberal down in the red states and I hate to say it but you're probably pretty much on your own with finding help. Good Luck!
One of the chief hurdles clients face in considering methadone treatment is how convenient it will be to get to the methadone clinic for daily dosing. Metropolitan areas traditionally have a timely bus system and access to taxis, but those in rural areas can often find themselves stuck in the country with no way to get to the clinic but if u have a way there might call or try.BIRMINGHAM METRO T.C.

Not only should you have your medical records MRIs CAT scans x-rays also try to have your last six months of your refills of pain medicines of all medicines actually from the pharmacy they will do a print out and take that with you to the doctor so they can see that you have been taking them they will do up to a year if you would want that helps a lot when you go in with your prescriptions that you have had filled at the same pharmacy and shows that you were or are consistent when you go, good luck
Insurance is a billion dollar business and when (for example) a pt with degenerative spinal disease, herniated or ruptured discs, sciatica, injured neck all together is costing insurance $1300 a month for one medication (opana) suddenly this abuse-proof medication is a culprit in thousands of abuse deaths. Of course it has nothing to do with the fact that in the elderly especially, medications, constipation, and general diet can either cause a build up of excess opiates in system, or pass right through the system unused. The abuse-proof pills stick to the stomach and G.I. lining. Insurance wants to save money... $22 billion a year profit is not enough. So lobbyist take the stance against opiates, in disregard of those with serious injuries. Cut medication dosages, dictate to doctors what to prescribe and all in the name of saving lives? Are we ALL that gullible. Dont be so greedy insurance. Life is worth a lot more than money. I am a licensed paramedic, disabled on the job since 2003 and my opana was stopped then my oxymorphone went from a $8 to $700 copay (truth). My md who is licensed and under threat by cdc and dea must cut dosages. I was at 420med (milligram equivalent day) in 3 months i will be at 90med. I'm at 120med now and wake up and must pull my way out of bed, take my 2000 year old morphine (china around 2000 years ago) in use here since 1800's. I believe, yet newer better meds arent covered by insurance anymore. They still burn witches? Not nice. I will be wheel chair bound eventually from pain. But for now its not my body causing the problem its the "ABUSERS", malarky. I wish humans were still empathetic and caring enough without a major suit to force help. In a legalistic society (now) only the lawyers win.
