Need A Dr. In Phoenix Az To Take Over Prescribing Oxycodone
UpdatedI have been on a daily dosage (total) of 120 mg. of Oxycodone since 2013. My current provider is the VA hospital. They are getting worse than ever, treat veterans like crap, and finding a place to even park at the VA hospital is now taking me an extra 30-45 minutes of circling until I find a spot (I am a paraplegic and have to use a wheelchair so I need a spot that has the extra space that allows me to get my wheelchair out of my van).
Anyway, I am hoping to find a doctor that will take over my care and continue me on my current prescription of 20 mg. of oxycodone every 4 hours. I have a condition in my spinal cord called Adhesive Arachnoiditis (diagnosed by the VA by MRI). I refused any narcotics at first and instead took a whole range of different drugs they prescribed to try to alleviate the pain. None worked and many had awful side effects. My doctors eventually told me I should quit working because that was only causing me more stress which exacerbated the pain (after becoming paralyzed I went to school and after a lot of hard work I got my undergrad and then a law degree and then practiced law for a number of years). So I medically retired.
When the pain didn't get any better, the doctors again pushed narcotics on me. The oxycodone gives some relief and at least gives me a small degree of quality of life. I don't want to have to go through all of the other pills and crap again, I just want a doctor that can look at my medical records and is not afraid to keep me on the same course I am on.
It seems that there are so many doctors out there these days who are afraid to prescribe narcotic pain medications long term, especially oxycodone. I have seen 2 pain doctors already in an attempt to transfer my care, but they both declined to continue my current course of treatment without even looking at my medical records before making that decision. It seems that there is so much stigma and political correctness surrounding pills like oxycodone and its frustrating for someone who has a well documented inoperable condition and is already getting the pain meds from another provider.
Any help or suggestions for a provider? I am in the West valley area of Phoenix and would prefer a provider in this area, but at this point, I am not going to be picky. Thanks for any help.
