Need Pain Management Doctor In Or Near Springfield Missouri

I was wheelchair-bound & in constant, horrific pain for eight years despite 2 lumbar surgeries & a C-spine surgery. After my last lumbar surgery, a year in a nursing home with an excellent physical therapist and the right medication my pain was under control...I could finally get out of bed after 8 yrs, walk a half mile, live a relatively normal life...I was even considering a part-time job eventually. This was when I lived in California. 2 yrs ago I moved to Mountain Home AR to be with my sister. I immediately tried finding a doctor here but there was no one willing to help me. When I ran out of the meds I brought from California, I went through severe withdrawal, & back to the unbearable chronic pain for which I considered suicide many times. When Dr. Chatman & Tilley came here I was ecstatic but Chatman, for some unknown reason, was rude, condescending, wouldn't let me talk, would actually scream & yell at me & basically call me a drug addict. I was horrified; no one, let alone a doctor, had EVER talked to or treated me like that. This despite the fact that I had all my surgical records, MRI & X-ray films, the actual medication containers from California, & my discharge records & physical therapy & medication instructions from my doctors & the nursing home I had just left. I was never anything but nice to Chatman (I hesitate to call him a "Dr."). I didn't respond to his egregious treatment of me or demand more meds...I only requested the same meds I had been taking & which had proven to work for me. He finally fired me & referred me to Batesville pain clinic for a pain pump which I could never afford. The meds I need are 2 60mg MS Contin a day, 2 Soma a day, & 1-2 Percocet (or oxycodone) every 4 hrs as needed. I am a diagnosed intractable pain patient & I am desperate for a true pain management doctor. Can anyone help me find one in or near the Springfield MO area? I will be forever grateful. Thanx!

Hello, Calgirl! How are you doing?

Unfortunately, if you walk in asking for specific medications, regardless of what your records show, you're going to get reactions like that. Doctors are taught to view it as being drug seeking behavior.

What you really need to do is go to an appointment with a new doctor, make sure you take a full copy of your records with you or have them sent to their office and tell them you need help with your pain. When they can see what has and hasn't worked for you in the past, as documented by fellow physicians, they'll be more prone to prescribe accordingly.

Can anyone suggest a good doctor in that area?
