Need Help Finding Doctor To Prescribe Either Oxycodone Vicodin Or Methadone 10mg For My Chronic Pain (Page 2) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been suffering from chronic pain for 7 years and have always been on and off pain meds from tylenol 3 to 90mg methadone at the worst of any ever taken. I decided to dose down & get off of methadone as I did not care for the "clinic" enviroment per say as I was using more for pain then for addicition. I found a dr that prescribed me the pain meds for breakthrough pain and the pill form of methadone 10mg was what I chose but now he is gone as he lost his license which sucks for me because NO ONE will give me anything, not even the methadone unless I go back to the stupid clinc and I so don't want that... DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A DR. that would prescribe anything or just something to get me through life with less pain? I am in the twin cities of Minnesota and I will drive if need be.
Kev - at my age, I worked nearly 40 years into the system before becoming injured 2 years ago.
I AM the taxpayer. What are you, 20 something? I funded my own benefits. I deserve them. It's my right.
When you grow up, Medicare will be there for you because your elders have it fully funded.
Medicare is insurance I paid into MY ENTIRE LIFE. I'm due it.
When you pay premiums for your insurance, do the your medical bills get paid?
You have deductible and copay. So does Medicare.
Hate some more... you're just young and don't understand. I feel very sorry for you.
My sister has been to a pain management and has had therapy and they have only given her small amounts of Vicodin 5 mg She was given Meloxicam, I may have misspelled that but she was bleeding into her stomach so they had to take her off that pill. She gets about 15 pills for the month and the family doctor won't write opiates. She also has seen an orthopedist and a rheumatologist but none have helped her pain. She never wanted to take opiates but right now there is nothing else left. She is in her 70's and otherwise healthy except for her spine. She must use a cane and hang on to a shopping cart to shop. She is a widow and it makes me so angry that she is treated so badly. She had a cadaver bone placed in her spine when she had surgery but that has not taken the pain away.
I hear similar stories all of the time. She has always been very cautious with her meds and has never been addicted to anything .
I have used tramadol and at first I thought it was great. However after taking the meds daily for 6 month I ended up having seizures. Be very careful of it. I have asked several doctors who treat chronic pain and will not prescribe it at all because of a higher risk kidney failure after long term use. While it may be OK for the short term it is not a very good choice for daily use over a period of years. Also just you can get medication over the internet does not mean the drug is safe or legal to use without a prescription.
Blessed: since you live in MN and I am moving there next month I would to have you email me back {edited for privacy} Thanks
Kev. Why in the hell would you go to a doctor and not tell him what medications you are on and why you are taking them for. Major part of someone's history which can help a doctor treat someone is telling the doctor what medication you have taken and how effective there are. Some doctor no matter what is going on will not prescribe any opiate medication. Since my medication along with water aerobic classes I go to 3 -4 times a week and back exercises allows me to have a lot less pain and to have a better and active life. If I go to a doctor who does not believe in using pain medication then I wasted a bunch of time and money. Then there are the doctors who require you go though there 4 week PT program for $1000's or bunch of other treatments that have not helped in the past or even made things worse. I wonder how much money is spent for back surgery that could have been controlled otherwise with pain medication. To me the bottom line is that pain doctors do not make there money giving you your refill of medication they get it by giving you IV's or other treatments. Then people wonder why health care cost are so high in this country. If someone is doing well on there high blood pressure medication would the doctor change it. It should be the same with chronic pain patient especially if you can back the need by a MRI or other diagnostics and your exam.
I would get on line and look at pain management doctors in your area. Then when you find some that look good, get on Yelp and see how their patients review them.
It does work. I found three and I chose one. I had my first appointment and I received my prescription. I was very happy with the doctor who was kind and very understanding.
Hi BL
I am not talking about new laws but the doctors prescribing are being told to limit opiates for two weeks and then quit. I appreciate your links. They do talk about the pressure on doctors. I know my sister in Wisconsin was given a two week prescription and she was told she cannot get another one. She has had surgery, too many epidurals to count ,and nerve ablation, yet they want her on steroids and nsaids and not on opiates. She asked for another back surgery and they said her bones were too fragile. She is in pain every day.
What bothers me is the papers and t.v channels seem to be too focused on this.
I also had an orthopedic physician say to me no more opiates even though I never ran out and I saw him monthly. He was upset by the pressure of prescribing and just quit . I am fortunate my PCP helps me out but that Dr may change his mind too.
christina I am so sorry. I wish I had an answer. I think if you try to look at doctors in your area and then read Yelp especially near your address you may get an idea about how patients are treated.
Maybe you could ask a pharmacist if they could refer or know of a physician who will help you. I had a woman approach me at the pharmacy when she saw me pick up my Norco and she asked for the name of my doctor. Her doctor decided not to prescribe opiates any more. My pharmacists have been very kind. I switched to Walgreen's. They know me and my issues. I see my family doctor every month and he is kind and he treats me with respect. I hope you find that too.
What is being said is Tramadol is wortless for some one with his pain level. The CDC is damaging pain management pts by limiting opiates. As a lic medical practitioner I couldn't agree more. Get government out of our doctors office's. Stop the intense suffering that millions of people globally are forced to endure. The US is a leader in medicine. Hopefully in compassion.
Ultram or the generic tramadol is NOT a medication that is dispensed without a prescription. It's class has changed from IV to III
You all should be adults abput it and demand oxycontin 80 mg 120 a month boom
KeeKee, I have no idea what the source of your information is. However, as it stands right now, the most recent action that the DEA has taken regarding ULTRAM/TRAMADOL is that it has RECOMMENDED that tramadol be placed into CSA Schedule IV. That recommendation was published in November, 2013. But, as of January 22, 2014, tramadol has not become a Controlled Substance undr the CSA. Some individual states have placed tramadol into Controlled Substance schedules (and those states have placed tramadol into Schedule IV or V, NOT Schedule III). Right now, however, tramadol is not a federally controlled substance at all.
However, at RECOMMENDED doses, Ultram (tramadol) doesn't normally cause seizures. It's actually extremely unusual for tramadol to cause seizures unless it's being abused by taking large doses.
Kev-that was my point. It was YOU who said that it should be otherwise.
If you're not helping folks here, you're passing judgement.
I'm done with you and this conversation. No one is really interested in you thinking that you own the truth.
Leave us to help and support each other.
KJB- again, judgement without understanding is harmful.
If you don't like what's asked and you're OK with your situation, you're hurting, not helping by calling people names without knowing them.
Perhaps you should find another place to be hurtful.
People here are in enough pain.
I'm done wasting time on you as well...
Kev, I know you wrote this about 10 months ago but I had to comment on your, " if the doc retired or closed their office you would have been referred somewhere." That is SO not true. I live in Minnesota, am a nurse in same state and I can tell you that if your MD leaves for ANY reason you don't usually get a referral to another doctor/clinic....especially when chronic pain is involved. It happened to my 70 year old, 100% disabled mother with chronic illness.....chronic pain being one of them.....and she never got a referral to anyone! They do not treat CP patients with the same respect or dignity as they do other patients. It makes me sick! I am a nurse, working in this field, and I am appalled at the way CP patients are treated! It's cruel punishment because of the others who want the meds for recreational use. I did find my mother a wonderful doctor......no thanks to any part of the healthcare system! Anyway, this was just an FYI. Some people are actually looking for docs to prescribe SPECIFIC meds because after many months or years of trying they finally have been put on something that works. I can understand that, can't you? The search for what will work for you is a long, exhausting, torturous process for many! And yes, there ARE some who are just looking for an easy score. But, I don't know these people and therefore am not going to judge addict or not.
Many doctors do not take Obama Care. Medicare does not pay for narcotic prescription even when filled by a pain doctor. Maybe if a person is dying from cancer they might pay. Even with drug coverage they do not even pay for Soma.
Pain clinic doctors are now taking advantage of the new laws. They want years of therapy and epidurals repeated and EMG diagnostics. It is all about money even with mri's showing serious spinal issues doctors want to send patients to therapy and not write prescriptions. It is very hard to find a compassionate doctor.
Just moved to the Minneapolis area and have medical records to back up my conditions would you please share CeeCee as I'm in a serious situation my script runs out in two days and I have no idea where to go in the whole city.
Hi everyone,
It has come to our attention that there has been increased amount of arguing in this thread. One individual is very upset because they have been accused of posting as multiple people (which is actually not true at all). They have written to us and may very well avoid coming back to the site. This is particularly upsetting because our intention is to help individuals connect, empathize with one-another, and share helpful knowledge.
Moving forward we will not tolerate further bickering. Stick to facts, knowledge, personal stories, and refrain from name calling. It is OKAY to respectfully disagree with one-another but it needs to be done in a civilized manner. Everyone is entitled to their point of view and conflicting opinions should be exchanged without berating or invalidating other individuals. We have already started cleaning up this thread and will promptly ban any users who do not abide by this request.
Rule # 1 under our Discussion Thread Guidelines (underneath the SUBMIT button on the reply form) states:
(1) Act civilized and be respectful towards others.
We put this wording in there for a reason. Nobody should ever feel upset to the point where they do not want to return to our site! Please help us to realize our mission of connecting with and helping one-another. Wishing you all good health!
Thank you!
Posters,
Ultram has so many dangers (high seizure threshold, contraindicated in the elderly, cardiac, and lung deficiencies) along with the mixed antagonist/agonist properties I would strongly suggest against it's use.
