Narcotics can effect each individual differently (some people tolerate them really well, while others just have to sit back and let it take effect); therefore in a situation where you have other priorities, you may have to be your own best judge as to whether or not you feel like you are still under the influence of the medication or if it is wearing off and it's time to take your next dose. In my honest opinion, this would probably be the best time to do what you need to do (right before you're planning on taking the next dose).

In reality though, if you simply can't do what you need to do while you're on this type of medication, then you simply need to ask family or friends for assistance; which they should be happy to do for you if you gave them no reason to treat you wrongly.

As far as the half-life goes, which specific medication are you referring to?
