Naltrexone Stretching And Yawning
UpdatedI just started Naltrexone. The dosage is 1/2 of a 50 mg tablet 2x per day. I took my second dose early this morning. I feel really weird. Light-headed, groggy and a little dizzy. I also keep having urges to stretch and yawn like when I first wake up from a deep sleep.
I am taking this for alcohol and appetite, It did greatly diminish my desire for alcohol and food after my first dose yesterday so I really want to continue. Will this get better? I can hardly function this morning. I am wondering if a much lower dose would be effective for me.

Most side effects will go away, once your body gets used to the medication, but that may take 4 to 6 weeks. If they persist beyond that, then you should consult your doctor, you should also do so, if your symptoms become severe.
The FDA lists other side effects of Naltrexone as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, rash, and night sweats.
How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?
I have only taken one dose I felt odd a little out of it bad headache very nauseous and then when I started to feel a little bit better I started to get the yawn and stretch just like you described! Did you ever talk to your doctor about this??
Re: Heather (# 2)
I stretch alot, too. Never thought much of it. But I've stretched so much in the past few days after taking naltrexone. Same reason. For alcohol. So far so good. I also had a hard time sleeping at night. Tired, so tired during the day.
Re: IrishBoozer (# 3)
I had to stop taking it. I swear it made me feel like I had the flu.
I googled Naltrexone and stretching and found your comment. The first time I thought it was a coincidence, but after taking it again a few weeks later it's the same thing. I feel like a cat stretching after a nap. Not the worst side effect, but definitely noticed and kind of strange. Any negative effects?
Same for me, I can't stop stretching and yawning. Then I remembered the last time I was taking it for my alcohol for dependency before the pandemic. It was the same thing then too. Overall tiredness as well.
I started taking naltrexone again. Tried it once before, but stopped. I experienced this feeling where I couldn’t stop stretching and when I would stretch it was so amazing. I couldn’t sleep because I had to stretch… a bit annoying tho. Why does this happen??
Same side effect, I found myself after 3 days of taking it to be stretching so ..hard that I would get light headed and almost pass out! but my god did it feel good. After 72 hours though all the side effects began to diminish and then they were gone at like the 5 day mark. I was taking it for food addiction but it doesn't work for me. However my drinking is down to almost nothing, whereas I was a moderate drinker before I started taking it
Re: Justin (# 8)
Just started Naltrexone for alcohol abuse disorder and it works wonders. It also demolishes my appetite.
Stretching feels so good. I also want to know why that happens. Very curious.
Re: StevieJ (# 6)
So I had to stop taking it due to having a very bad panic attack and the tired feeling never going away. I've decided to exercise and change my diet which for whatever reason has really helped me with my alcohol dependency and I'm barely drinking at all anymore.

YES. I googled Naltrexone and stretching to see if they were connected. Today is day 1 at 50mg and I am finding myself having the most intense and wonderful stretches! I'm enjoying this side effect. No dizzziness or nausea for me. Just dreamy stretches.
Also experiencing intense stretching and sustained boner stretching until I get out of bed. My wife isn't amused by my uncontrollable hip-thrusting at 4AM. 5 days on this and I'm less tired each day. I take 25mg between 5-7PM, usually before dinner. Definitely has helped with binge eating, food is less appealing. I'm not overweight or unhealthy but I usually eat myself sick 3-4 nights a week and now I can think about food all day and I can smoke at night without bingeing.
Re: StevieJ (# 6)
I am constantly stretching even in the night. I swear that is why I am so tired. All I do is stretch and not sleep.
Re: IrishBoozer (# 3)
The first time I took it my doctor told me that of the most common side effects (that they don't have listed) are yawning and stretching. I get them too...weird
Re: Heather (# 4)
It's likely that you just took it too soon and eent into precipitated withdrawals... Not regular withdrawal .
