Naltrexone And Vivitrol New User

I got the vivitrol shot and drank a lot then I took 2 of my naltrexone pills because I felt bad for drinking. 5 hours later my muscles are twitching a lot and my legs are cramping is this a normal side effect (should I ride it out) or should I go to the hospital. Could it be too much naltrexone? Or is my body withdrawing from the alcohol.

I experienced no side effects from Naltrexone and have not had the vivitrol shot. It was my understanding that it was one or the other - the month-long shot or the pills. Perhaps you had too much in your system. Dehydration and lack of electrolytes like sodium and potassium definitely can lead to muscle cramps. I advise some sort of sports drink and keep the fluids coming, since your nervous system being in high gear keep chemicals like adrenaline rolling and causes you to lose water faster than normal, above and beyond the dehydrating effect of the alcohol itself.

By the way, I was researching side effects and found muscle cramps listed, so it could have been a side effect, plus the dehydration.

In response to 'Newuser', I just wanted to add in agreement with 'Gxulien', that "joint or muscle pain" is indeed confirmed and listed as a more common side effect of Naltrexone on NIH. They go on to note that patients should contact their doctor in the event of this happening...
