I've been taking approximately 6g of kratom every 4 to 6 hours for about 2 years now. I want to use a weight loss medication which contains naltrexone but wonder if it will cause withdrawal sickness because of my kratom use? ## Hi, I am in the same boat as you. Have not been using Kratom that long (about 6 months) but want to start Contrave for weight loss. I am also hoping the naltrexone will help me not use the Kratom anymore as I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to quit for a few weeks now. I think it will help with that but my concern now is that I will go into extreme withdrawals when I take the first dose. Did you end up taking yours? ## Personally, I think it would be best to consult a doctor for the purpose of setting up a tapering schedule with kratom in order to lessen an...
40 REPLIES UpdatedI just started Naltrexone. The dosage is 1/2 of a 50 mg tablet 2x per day. I took my second dose early this morning. I feel really weird. Light-headed, groggy and a little dizzy. I also keep having urges to stretch and yawn like when I first wake up from a deep sleep. I am taking this for alcohol and appetite, It did greatly diminish my desire for alcohol and food after my first dose yesterday so I really want to continue. Will this get better? I can hardly function this morning. I am wondering if a much lower dose would be effective for me. ## Most side effects will go away, once your body gets used to the medication, but that may take 4 to 6 weeks. If they persist beyond that, then you should consult your doctor, you should also do so, if your symptoms become severe. The FDA lists oth...
15 REPLIES UpdatedToday is day #2 for me on Naltrexone. I’m taking this (50 mg) in order to eliminate my craving for alcohol. I wasn’t sure about side effects, but my Physician told me she didn’t know of any. And I know she has prescribed this for many other of her patients - all with beneficial results. Yesterday, I felt tired after taking it, and basically had no appetite. Today is more of the same however, I believe in a slightly more pronounced way (to a greater degree). Thus far I ate a small sized leftover portion of spaghetti while at work today. But now I have no desire for supper. So I have a few questions: Will these side effects ever go away? If not, is there a good alternative to Naltrexone that doesn’t typically exhibit these same side effects? Also, how long will I n...
1 REPLY UpdatedI was curious if this medication helps with pain from opiate withdrawal? ## Una-contrary! It will make withdrawals much worse. You may use naltrexone at least 7 days after you stop using opiates. ## I've been taking oxycodone for years now. I took the vivitrol shot yesterday without detoxing from pills. I went into a very violent withdrawal for about 12 hours. no sleep at all. I am still in withdrawal because of getting off pills. But if i took a pill, would it help with my bad withdrawals or will naltrexone throw me into a worse intense withdrawal? ## Instructions for naltrexone suggest no opiate use for 7 days. I start in 2 days and have taken an opiate maybe 5 times over the last 3 days. Will there be any reaction still because there is no addiction? I wouldn't have thought i...
8 REPLIES UpdatedSo, I had a terrible opiate problem. Tried to quit cold turkey, was too sick, and had to do a 4 day taper. Anyway, I'm getting the naltrexone implant tomorrow, I'm only 3 days off my taper. Anyway, my question is, my doctor wants me to start with a 1/4 pill so its in my system. Now, I know I'm going to get even more sick. I've accepted that. My question is, how long will I be sick before it starts to feel better? Is it like Suboxone and after 1-2 hours, you're feeling quite a bit better, orrr...? Thanks! ## Hello, Kristen! How are you? Generally, about 3 days is the recommend time frame, to avoid severe precipitated withdrawals, so in theory, things shouldn't get much worse, but we are all different, so there are no guarantees. And no, it has little effect on opi...
3 REPLIES Updatednaltrexone was prescribed following detox from opiate addiction......I'm trying to get off the naltrexone but I start having "withdrawal".....muscle pain, nausea...when I stop taking the naltrexone.....I've been opiate free for months.....why is this happening? everything I've read says that naltrexone is not physically addictive, but I'm starting to wonder......has anyone had this problem with naltrexone? ## Your body can become dependent on anything that you take for a long period of time, because it gets used to having that substance. This means that a sudden cessation may result in some withdrawal effects, though they aren't usually as severe as the withdrawals from an actual addiction. Have you consulted your doctor for assistance? ## Can I take Naltrexo...
10 REPLIES UpdatedI got horribly constipated about 5 days after starting naltrexone 50mg. So I stopped. Are there any known methods of taking naltrexone and preventing constipation? BTW, I have a good diet and never get constipated. ## I take a stool softener plus laxative in the morning and night time. I have the same problem so I asked my local pharmacy and that's what they recommended. Hope this helps. ## Oh this is so interesting, I take low-dose naltrexone, 0.5 mg in the morning, and it gave me diarrhea every day for the first seven days, then it stopped. I only get constipated on the days I don’t take it, but I think that’s because I also take oxycodone three times a day so when I don’t take the LDN in the morning it’s almost like my body is opioid naïve again. ## W...
5 REPLIES UpdatedHi, I am trying to understand the differences between Naloxone and Naltrexone because I was prescribed Naltrexone tablets over the summer and had a severe allergic reaction and had to be hospitalized. I do not know if the Naloxone in Suboxone would give the same reaction, but I do not want to find out. If anyone can explain this to me, I would greatly appreciate it. =) ## Hello, Kkbc! How are you? While they both do the same thing, they are two different substances. So, while you may have had a reaction to the Naltrexone, you might be okay with the Naloxone, but there is also a slight chance that you could have a reaction to it, too. Typical side effects to Naloxone may include nausea, change in mood, increased sweating and nervousness. If you do have a problem with it, Subutex is alway...
4 REPLIES UpdatedI have been taking naltrexone for a month now to help me quit getting drunk on white wine. My pharmacist said I shouldn't drink any alcohol while taking this drug but would like to know if I went out on a weekend, could I drink a glass of wine or two while taking naltrexone? Would there be any severe side effects? ## Wouldn't that be defeating the purpose of why you wanted to start taking it? Not only is it risky to consume alcohol with any medication, but if you wanted to stop drinking, it really makes little sense to go right back to it. Have you consulted your doctor? Have you undergone any counseling for this issue? ## Co: Your pharmacist does not understand the way naltrexone works or what its purpose is. Naltrexone works by the principal of "pharmacological extinction...
23 REPLIES UpdatedSo I've been taking naltrexone for the past month or two to reduce alcohol cravings. Last night I decided to drink, I had two beers and was so nauseous from it the whole time drinking, I ended up throwing up. Which is very unlike me. ## Well, it can cause nausea as a side effect, as listed by the FDA and drinking alcohol while taking any medication can worsen the side effects. You may also experience dizziness, drowsiness and dry mouth. It's best to refrain from drinking alcohol, when taking any prescription medication. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I've been taking Naltrexone for about a year now. It was prescribed for opiates, but it really makes me not want to drink too. The main reasons being I have terrible heartburn most times I drink. I'm not sure if ...
2 REPLIES UpdatedHi... my husband has been addicted to pain pills off and on for the past 5 years, with things getting really out of hand the past year. Almost 2 weeks ago he went to detox and rehab. He AMA'ed out of rehab 3 days ago because he said he couldn't take it. He is willing try something to help him control his cravings. I've done some reading on Naltrexone and was wondering how well it works and if anyone knows of a doctor in the Houston area that prescribes it? Right now he needs all the help that he can get. Thank you! =) ## Hi, I was hooked on pills and opiates for 5 years. Heavy user. Tried to quit many times. Plus two state run detox. Failed them all. I know everyone gets really sick. But I get extra sick. Two words. Coleman Institute. Saves my life. Detox was a cake walk. Th...
3 REPLIES UpdatedAfter a serious alcohol induced illness I have never touched it again, 3 years completely dry. I have no physical craving but still seek in my life the 'feel good' that came from booze. I seek that buzz in other unharmful things or activities but it never seems to reach that 10 out 10 feeling that booze gave me. Consequently I believe I'm still addicted to the effect of alcohol. Do others have this problem, or understand mine? Does anyone know others in the same position who have used naltrexone for this situation? My life is trouble and generally stress free and I'm very fortunate so it's not life doing this. I'd really like to find a doctor or psychologist that has worked with this situation using naltrexone to treat it. Would really appreciate any information ...
21 REPLIES UpdatedI was prescribed Contrave for weight loss. I also have a injury to my right upper arm and shoulder that has made me unable to move my my arm more than 6 inches forward, backwards and out to the side without causing horrible pain. My doctor prescribed Tramadol and occasionally Vicodin for pain relief. Fast forward 5 yrs. Opiod crisis. Doctor stops my prescription. Go thru withdraw and Pain is none stop. Enter Contrave...with it's LDN (low dose naltrexone & bupropion) Within a week the pain is subsiding. On week 4 it's gone! No more pain..I can move my arm as if it had never been injured. I read about LDN (opiod antagonist used to treat opiod addicts by stopping the effects of opiods...and yet it also seems to relieve some kinds of pain like migraines and fibromyalgia). I am w...
3 REPLIES UpdatedHi. I have had the naltrexone implant for approx 2 months now. When I got it I cried with relief when driving home because I thought it would be my saviour after everything I heard and read. I have been a black out drinker for over 10 years now. Have done detoxes, one rehab, two years of AA and nothing helped. Continued to have the never ending torture of thinking about the damn drink. But I'm devastated that I'm still drinking most nights on this thing. I know it's psychological, it's definitely not physical cravings. I am forcing large quantities of discusting tasteting cheap vodka down my through because I just can't handle being sober. Always so scared to be sober. I don't enjoy drink anymore and go straight to black out drunk yet I can't stop. Getting ve...
5 REPLIES UpdatedHey guys my name is Steven and i was recently sober for 3 months and frequently attending AA/NA meetings. After the last dose which was Three days ago now i told myself im done with all of it. I suprisingly dont feel that bad right now thank god.Now back to my question, I have a prescription at home for Naltrexone 50mg to be taking in the morning and at night. 19 REPLIES UpdatedAre there any Doctors in Columbus, OH that Prescribe Naltrexone for the Sinclair Method? ## Check the site cthreefoundation. Large support there including doctors who have prescribed in many locations in the US. Cthree is a huge proponent of The Sinclair Method (TSM). He has proven over many years of studies using Naltrexone and continuing to drink, slowly diminishes the pathway of the learned behavior of alcohol abuse. ## Sinclairmethod.org has providers in Ohio and in other states as well. The medication works.
2 REPLIES UpdatedWhat is trexone used for please? ## Did you mean Naltrexone? It is used to help treat opiate addiction, or prevent the abuse of opiates, while someone is under treatment, because it neutralizes them, so they don't have their usual effects on the body. Learn more: ## Trexone was prescribed to me to treat trigeminal neuralgia once a day. What is it? What does it do?
2 REPLIES UpdatedAny one have experience using Lo Dose Naltrexone for arthritis, fibromyalga, or chronic pain ? ## I used LDN for Crohn's Disease and it was very effective in reducing abdominal pain. I used Neurontin, a synthetic analog of GABA, for nerve pain and it helped. You can buy GABA from a health food store. I hope this helps. ## Does LDN help with rheumatoid arthritis victims? ## GABA and Neurontin are not the same as far as effects. Neurontin (Gabapentin) is a Schedule IV or V prescription drug. IMO, OTC GABA is crap. ## Yes. It helps my pain, on a pain scale 1-10 the 5 mg daily decreased my pain level from an 8 to a 2.??
4 REPLIES UpdatedI'm on a sleeping pill called Dormonoct 2mg. Can it still work on your system even after taking 50mg Naltima (Naltrexone)? ## Dormonoct is listed as containing Loprazolam, it is related to benzodiazepines, so there shouldn't be a problem, since Naltrexone only blocks opiates. The NIH does warn that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and irritability. Is there anything else I can help with?
1 REPLY UpdatedIm an alcoholic. I can't seem to get a prescription for naltrexone (I've been finding it on the internet, very expensive but worth the money, it has saved my life). My MD will not prescribe and I can't find anyone who will. Is there some way of finding someone who will prescribe that I haven't tried yet? Thanks ## Where do you live? ## I live in Cheviot Ohio. My md just refuses. The only thing I can find is the vivitrol shot, but I want the pills so I can keep doing the Sinclair method. It's worked very well for me but I can't afford to buy it without having a valid script from a doctor. :(. Any help appreciated thanks :) ## HPR Clinic on Sawbury Road in Columbus Ohio (off of Sawmill road). They will give shot and write Naltrexone prescriptions. ## On the cthreef...
