I am a female in my early 40's. I had an hysterectomy over 14 years ago plus my doctor does NOT think it's premenopausal symptoms? But...it's getting worse and becoming so stressful! When it happens during the day I have to step outside in the cold plus my face and chest get BRIGHT RED!! Than the evenings are the worst I get so hot I wear summer pjs to bed and than the hot flashes start up and it breaks my sleep to take just a sheet on me off but than 5 mins later I am freezing? My hair and clothes are soaked every morning!!! I am really upset, worried, and concerned!! It's getting worse not better at all???

Hello, Lizzy! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having.

Are you on any medications, even over the counter products? There are some that can cause these issues as side effects.

However, having had a hysterectomy and being in your 40's, it could very well be perimenopause. Symptoms of it can start as early as 40 to 41. I've been experiencing them for 2 years, now, since I was 42.

Have you tried anything to remedy them? I found that both Black Cohosh and over the counter progesterone cream can help, if your doctor approves of you trying them. I also found that the progesterone cream stopped the hot flashes very fast.

Though, it is a hormonal supplement, so the FDA warns that it may cause side effects, such as headache, irritability and PMS-like symptoms.
