Norvasc - Any Problems Reducing Dosage?

I have been taking 10 mg of Norvasc daily for a year and a half and have suffered all the negative side effects. I also take 80 mg of Lisinopril daily. My BP prior to adding Norvasc was anywhere from 165/95 to 200/95 (at this time I was taking Cozaar and Lisinopril). BP is now 124/85 to 145/95 BUT the side effects are so severe my quality of life is all but destroyed and I am pretty sure it is not the Lisinopril causing the side effects. My cardiologist gave me an Rx for 5 mg of Norvasc and told I can reduce the dosage but he can't guarantee my BP will not sky rocket. MY QUESTION IS, HAS ANYONE REDUCED THE DOSAGE THEY WERE TAKING OF NORVASC AND DID THEIR BP INCREASE APPRECIABLY?

Hello, Alan! How are you?

That is always a risk, when lowering the dosage of such a medication.

Why did your doctor just prescribe a different medication to replace it? That would make much more sense.

I also had bad reactions to this medication and had to stop taking it. But there are several alternatives, so my cardiologist switched me to a different one. If the calcium channel blockers work well for you, then you could try Felodipine or Nifedipine.

As listed by the FDA, their typical side effects may possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, dry cough and hypotension.

What types of side effects have you been experiencing?
