I was just prescribed this medicine and do not feel very comfortable taking it. I would like to know if any one has tried this drug and how did it work. I was previously on oxycontin and the Dr. just changed me to this. Also i am allergic to mophine, alot of people have told me including the doctors that i work for that i should not take this due to my allergy. I have not filled the prescription and the Dr. that prescribed it has not called me back yet. Please give me any answers from anyone

I'm a chronic pain patient of many years. I've been on 15 mg Percocet every 4-6 hours for several years. I wanted to change to Opana, because I'd heard I could start it without going thro withdrawals from the Percocet. So I stopped the Percocet, like the doctor and pharmacists had directed, and started on Opana. Both said I WOULD NOT go thro withdrawal. But by the 4th or 5th day, I absolutely KNEW I was sufferuing from severe withdrawal, and had to stop the Opana and go back on the Percocet, to my dismay. Been there, done that sorta thing. I believe had I had help getting off the percocet, I coukld've tolerated the Opana. Opana is made by the same pharmaceutical company as Percocet.

wow, they actually prescribed opana for you, while in knowledge that you are allergic to morphine?

OH MY WORD!!! thats a sign to run for the hills!

but by n by, its your perogative, again if that was me, I would NOT take it.

Although im not allergic to morph, and am taking opana now. It doesnt aggravate me. Maybe its cuz i take this pure minerals to provide stealth health on daily basis that we all need certain amount of nutrition. This one here provides A-Z. Eat anything or take anything u want, and you are safe no matter what. It even prevents Cancer, and works with many ailments. I know what u are thinking. Why am i not taking minerals instead of pills. Well I have a long story. So Once i get off it, I can simply take certain minerals to wean off this powerful drug and not experience withdrawals and it flushes out all toxins from within.

Any other comments, you are welcome.

I was tried on Opana for two months, doc did same thing went from 200mg twice a day to 40 mg twice a day. It was the worst two months of my life. If it hadn't been for my oxycodone I have for breathru not sure I would have made it. even increasing the dose to 3 times a day did little more helped.I was climbing the walls the whole time. Not only did I have problems with withdrawl, and rebound pain, it also made me sick as a dog from the first dose I took. Won't ever touch it again

I was recently prescribed Opana after being on ten milligram percocet for years due to severe scoliosis and herniated discs in my neck. My dr. just prescribed it. I hate it. It does nothing for the pain at all and honestly I find that the percocet or ten milligram vicodin does the job much better. I have an appointment with my dr. on Monday and I am going to tell him to switch my medication back to percocet or vicodin. Hope this helps all of you. Also, if you are ever experiencing withdrawals of any kind, which I have had at times, ask your dr. for suboxone. It is wonderful. It is a small orange pill that disolves under your tongue and takes away ALL withdrawal symptoms. It is only fair for people like us who have chronic pain, we certainly do not need to deal with withdrawal symptoms on top of what the pain we deal with on a daily basis. Hope this helps......

I was on norco, oxycontin and finally on opana for a brain cyst and degernative disk disease. Opana worked fine for about 3 days and then in my opinion it has turned into living hell. I am trying desparately to get off the stuff. I have horrible sweats aches diarrhea shakes insomnia and the list goes on. My dr never told me it was 8 times more powerful than morphine or I would have said no. If anyone knows how to ease the withdrawal symptoms I would be greatly appreciate help. For a while u think your dr is a god and then you have no idea what a disservice they have done to you. Don't take Opana!

I was given opana 5 mg 2 tabs 3x day by my dr. for severe pain in my knee.
Dr. took x-rays and MRI and found nothing out of the ordinary. After about the 2nd or 3rd day I was back to normal and able to walk good again without a limp and without falling down. Pain went away. I had no side effects at all from opana. If I were you, I would give it a try.

NOTE TO JACK WISE:

Your doctor has given you too low of a dose, going from 200mgs of MS Contin to 40mgs of Opana is NOT an equivelent dosage, that is why you are experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

Additionally, when you stop taking narcotics, or go to a lower dose, then with the withdrawal symptoms, you will experience rebound pain, so your pain will actually seem much worse for a few weeks.

By the way, Opana is also NOT new, it has been out since 2006.

Sorry, I removed the post with incorrect information.

Opana contains Oxymorphone, an entirely different substance from Oxycodone and Morphine, though some people misunderstand because of the name of the active ingredient.

As to whether or not you can take it, since you are allergic to Morphine, if your pharmacy filled the prescription for you, knowing you are allergic to Morphine then you already have your answer.

Narcotic allergies do not always work like allergies to other medications, sometimes a bad reaction to one, does not occur with a different one.

I am allergic to Codeine, but had no problem with any other narcotics, your pharmacy would have alerted you if there was a danger to taking this.
