(Newest replies first)

Updated

Desperate times again. What to do? Where to go? This is absurd. Now back where we were 2 years ago, no one else makes it!! Clock is ticking now on my life, as I'm too old to go through the benzo hell of detox.

Re: Hippo (# 17) Expand Referenced Message

I agree. I used Dalmane as-needed for over 40 years. Effective and safe. I will die before I take Restoril again. Horrible next day effects. Z drugs are useless. I'm taking Ativan now and living like a zombie. For the love of God FDA and Rising Pharma, please get your act together!

Re: Hippo (# 17) Expand Referenced Message

I took Flurazepam 30 Mg as needed for over 40 years. Never developed dependence or withdrawal issues. Couldn't find it late in 2022. Worked with my doctor and tried several different medicines. Restoril was a nightmare, Ambien and the other Z meds don't work and make me sick. I'm now taking Ativan every day. Feel like a damn zombie, and can't sleep at all without it.

The good news is Rising Pharmaceuticals in New Jersey is supposed to begin distribution of Flurazepam in December 2023. I'm counting the days. I encourage everyone that found Flurazepam safe and effective for insomnia to reach out to Rising.

Re: mary (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

This is murder, I'm on flurazepam/dalmane for 23 years. Now mylan discontinued this very Effective pill. I'm not going to take a substitute. At my age, does anyone get breathing problems, paraesthesia, when you stay off flurazepam? It's a nightmare!!! I've some saved up, hopefully" they bring flurazepam/Dalmane back.!!!

Re: Joseph (# 10) Expand Referenced Message

this was very informative info. thanx.

I thought the FDA process was closer to like 30 years. I have in the past taken psychiatric drugs that are "new". The last one i remember was geodon. in the usa they still conduct pilot studies. the new trend seems to be the IM antipsychotics. old recipe new dose.

no idea why.

thanks again....

You're going to have to get on something else that's like Dalmane if it's being discontinued. Estazolam which is marketed under the brand name Prosom is pretty good and it's a benzo just like Dalmane. Good Luck

Re: mary (# 11) Expand Referenced Message

You're welcome, I hope you can find what you're looking for. I remember one of the side effects of Dalmane was that lingering taste in your mouth.

Re: l0ft (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

Oftentimes drugs are introduced in the United States several years later than other countries, the US FDA laws and regulations are quite strict. It usually takes an average of 7 or 8 years from when a pharmaceutical is invented until it reaches the market. But anyways Barbiturates are second generation hypnotics, came out in the 1940's. Prior to that were the Bromides, Chloral Hydrate (Noctec), and Paraldehyde, which was often used for alcohol withdrawal symptoms like the DT's, or Delerium Tremens, today Librium is used for that. Librium was the very first benzo IIRC. That being said I may be off by a few years on what year Dalmane and Restoril were introduced. But the Barbiturates came out in the 40's, followed by the non-barbiturate hypnotics like Quaalude, Doriden, Noludar, and Placidyl in the late fifties.

Barbiturates like Tuinal, Seconal, and Nembutal were introduced in the 40's. Then the non-barbiturate hypnotics like Noludar, Placidyl, Quaalude, and Doriden came out in the late fifties. Dalmane was the first benzo hypnotic, mid seventies. Restoril was introduced in the eighties. You can look it up online.

mylan made dalmane was very poor to begin with. this is going to upset many people.

i would immediately start clonazepam - dalmane is an 80 hour benzo.

i used to take restoril for sleep but mylan messed those up too. for sleep i am taking merk's belsomera with temazepam from novel.

have you tried Australia or Mexico?

Re: mary (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

Doriden (Glutethimide) was discontinued in the US in '93, the government basically forced the couple of companies still making it to stop. Went to Schedule 2, was abuse with codeine because of the liver enzyme inducer CYPD26. It was used in Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria until 2006. There is a lot of information online about the Doriden and codeine combination, known on the street as "Hits", or "Cibas and Codeine ". Ciba was embossed on the tablet from when it first was introduced until the seventies, then it was USV 354. Read up on it.

Re: Joseph (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

I started out after my father passed years ago, and I was in serious grief pain, with Tuinal and did really well with it. I have never abused a single drug I have been given. They are strictly to get me to sleep. Period. My Dr also prescribes generic Xanax, which does nothing for me. I tried to use it with Trazodone the other night and never went to sleep. How do you get the codeine? I have some pain meds from dentist with acetaminophen with codeine, but very few left. You seem to be mixing the codeine with a sleep pill that works for you. Several of the ones you listed I tried years ago. Nothing worked. Until the old Dalmane came along and was wonderful to get me the sleep I need. Discontinued. Now Flurazepam gone. I will get 6 pills at a time and try the ones you have listed to see if any work for me. I have been researching for days. If not, I have no clue what I will do. I cannot go to sleep as we as humans were intended, naturally.

If I remember correctly Dalmane was the very first benzo sleeping pill (hypnotic). I remember the funny taste in your mouth that was a side effect. Back in '99 I was prescribed them when Placidyl was discontinued, they were blue capsules but I don't remember if they were Mylan. The government is really a major player in the demise of all of the most effective sleep meds. Going back to the second generation hypnotics like Seconal, Nembutal, and the very effective Tuinal. Then the non-barbiturate meds such as Noludar, Doriden, which was the greatest, especially when taken with codeine, Placidyl, and of course the one that caused a lot of abuse but was quite effective, Quaalude. So now we are left with the useless Z meds like Ambien, Lunesta, and Sonata, but there are a few meds available similar in structure to Flurazepam, like Doral (Quazepam), Prosom (Estazolam), Restoril (Temazepam), and I don't know if it's still available but it was effective, Halcion (Triazolam). Then there are a couple of anti-depressants that physicians try to push on you because they don't want to write a prescription for a controlled substance, namely Desyrel (Trazodone), and Elavil (Amitriptyline). Nothing good is made anymore, especially hard hitting was when the DEA made Doriden a schedule 2 medication, which was basically banning it. It worked and it worked very well, particularly when combined with codeine. The government knows best don't forget.

I am the same. First it was Dalmane that got me nicely through life. Then gone. Now flurazepam gone. Other drugs out there do far more harm than this drug. It has a consistant 8.2 average. Yet we have to fight for it.

There are other sleep meds available, I believe Dalmane (brand name of Flurazepam by Roche) was the very first benzo hypnotic (sleeping pill). Is Halcion still available? Then there's Doral (Quazepam) and Pro-Som (Estazolam). They don't make anything good anymore like Placidyl, Tuinal, Sopor, or my number one med Doriden (Glutethimide), especially taken with codeine. Elavil is good for sleep also.

Have you spoken to your doctor about what alternative you can take?

Flurazepam is a benzodiazepine that carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, and mood changes.

Ref: Flurazepam Information

Are you on any other medications?
