Mylan 6150 Vs Delayed Release Variety

I had been taking the tan and beige prescription formula 20mg delayed release version of Omeprazole to treat my acid reflux for several months with no adverse effects. When I refilled the prescription this time, the pharmacy gave me the Mylan 6150, and after 3 days on it I developed a scary heart arrhythmia, so I stopped it immediately. The pharmacist argues that it is exactly the same medication; they just changed generic providers. Is this true?

Mylan Pharmaceuticals does list it as containing 20mgs of Omeprazole, but this is a regular release formulation, not a time released one, which might explain why you suddenly experienced side effects from taking it.

The FDA does list bradycardia, tachycardia, palpitations, and hypertension as all being possible side effects.

Thus, if you were supposed to receive a delayed release version, it seems your pharmacy may have made an error.

It is available over the counter, as well as by prescription. Have you had the heart issue checked out by your doctor to be safe?
