No, you can't dissolve them, because the LA means that this is a time released medication and doing so could cause him to get too much at once, which may result in a dangerous overdose.
The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, weight loss and insomnia.
However, the medication guide does say that they can be sprinkled over something such as apple sauce and swallowed that way, so that should be fine, if his doctor approves.
