My Mother's Medicine

Hi mother was prescribed this last month while hospitalized with back pain. She was also prescribed Metoprolol, to take along with it. Radiologist believed to see a small tear in her aorta, but the surgeon disagreed. So she stopped taking her reg. blood pressure medicine. She was told to start taking these meds instead. She said her heart feels like it's racing from time to time. Would you have any input??

There are two possibilities that might explain it.

One is that it could be due to a rebound effect from stopping her other medications and switching to this one. Abruptly stopping such medications can cause that and it can result in elevated blood pressure and heart rate.

Learn more Metoprolol details here.

The other option is that it may be a side effect of the Metoprolol itself, as it has been known to cause palpitations in some people.

Has she checked her blood pressure and heart rate at the times she feels that her heart is racing?
