My Meds Were Changed To Another Pain Med And I Still Had 5 Refills On My Old Med. I Have A Question (Top voted first)
Updatedi have 5 refills on my old meds.. I decided i really did not like the new pain meds he gave me. He gave me 2 paper prescription. I filled one of them and about 2 weeks later i decide i rather take the old med and i had it refilled. But, I realized that the old is not as strong as the new one and it helped with my pain so much beter. If i filled the paper prescription again i am worried my doctor will get mad at me for swiching back and forth. Will he know that i refilled the old pain meds and then went ahead and and filled the paper prescription again? Lotabs keep me from resting at nigh and the other meds make me sleepy but helps the pain more i just can not take the during the day. and i can not take the tabs at night. I just can not win from losing. He said he will make me go to pain managment if i need more med. I have degenative disk and i have had neck surgery and my whole body is in pain. I just wish he would let me take the 7.5 tabs during the day and one of the other at night but nope he will not hear of it. Anyway, I was just wondering if a doctor knows when you fill a prescription and/or a refill.
thank you

Before the national data base tipped the scales, to include a majority (now) of the 50 states, as, since
around 2009....38 states exchange data, now it is about 40 states, this year, it is a calculated risk, that, the M.D. may have his receptionist, run a Precription Monitoring Program check on you. It gives out your activity on Schedule II, III, and IV meds filled in the participating states. Also, even before these laws were enacted, "Intelliscript" a private subscription service to M.D's will give your MD a printout of every prescription you have filled, in the past 5 years......their biggest customers are all major medical insurance companies, when you apply for health insurance, to see if your ins application, agrees, with data, from Intelliscript. There is another data base tracking firm as well, Now, the pharmacy police, "in my state" will automatically, see on their computer screen, your prescription fill history,
be it "for cash" or, for "insurance claims" Intelliscript, used to charge $15.00 for a printout, that returned info within 1 to 3 minutes, online, much faster than the old Fax system...............................................
How do I know this? I like you, had a valuable,
Klonopin script, that was 5 1/2 months old, with one more refill left, and the deadline on C-IV's by federal law, is any C-IV in the USA is invalid after 180 days, of the inception date of the prescription. I travel twice a year for 30 days to housesit, for a relative, due to the high crime rate, where my sister lives, when she travels abroad.
This is my truth, I had my newest script, filled, only
5 days earlier, at another independant pharmacy, using my Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance pharmacy card, and have used a 2nd independant pharmacy, on occasion, to fill, some of my scripts, from the same M.D
to compare the Brand name, to, the generic same drug.
I have paid cash always at pharmacy #2, from 2005 to 2009. Since my state went online now with the PMP program (Prescription Monitoring Program) this pharmacy #2., refused to fill, my Klonopin script, stating to me, with a confident, rather harsh voice, that,
Mr. xxxx, I cannot accomodate you on your last refill of Klonopin, because, you had another Klonpin script, filled 5 days ago for a 30 day supply, (30 pills), you will have to wait another 25 days, for me to fill your script. He made me feel like a junkie, I stated back to him, I came to you 5 1/2 months ago, to get the Klonopin script filled, in brand name (Roche), and, if I wait, 25 days, now, you and I both know the 180 days will be up, and, the script, will not be any good. He agreed, yes you are correct Mr. xxxxxx, that is your problem! you made a error, going to xxxxxx pharmacy 5 days ago. "he found out, by the Prescription Monitoring Program".
I waited 1 year to return, and filled a fresh Roche Klonopin script, written from same MD with no refills,
After he filled the script, I told his Pharmacist Assistant
to tell the owner, operater, who was constantly on the telephone, that "I will not be returning anymore, because, one year ago, you cost me a refill, because, of the owner knew I use two pharmacies, and, I have records, copies of $5,000.00 worth of pharmaceuticals, in the past 5 years with your pharmacy, and he has just lost a cash customer, as I have not forgiven the treatment I received one year ago, being addressed in front of multiple customers, like I was a pill addict, it was totally unprofessional, he could have at least, addressed me in private. Period. I made sure this time, I have passed the test, of your proud PMP program, and, I was referred here in 2005, by his
now retired independant pharmacist friend, Mr. xxxxx, but, you will not see me again. xxxx pharmacy will not have all of my business. Please tell him that. The pharmacist assistant, was speechless.....................
In my humble opinion, (IMHO) the war on drugs, is
now on the patients, the Medical Doctors, and the Pharmacists, by our Drug Enforcement Administration,
especially targeting pain meds, C-II and C-III, as well, as all C-II stimulants, (Adderall to Ritalin), as well, as
all benzo's, especially Xanax. This is only my opinion,
comparing the prescription practices, when I was a student at the University of Miami, FL 1971, compared, to 2012, forty one years of taking medications, for
insomnia, for GAD, for ADHD, and for Depression.
YES! Your Dr has access to every script you get filled, from other doctors and other pharmacies. But here's my advice: Ask him to go ahead and refer you to a Pain Management Dr. You should be taken better care of there. They have access to much wider choices of treatment protocols, as well as a wider choice of medication. BUT: You will have to sign a contract stating that you understand that you cannot get medication from another doctor, and that you will take your meds as ordered by the doctor.
***They will have you take drug panels you every visit, and will be able to tell if you are taking your prescribed meds, and not selling them, etc. It's a rigid regimen, but worth it. YOU MUST BE HONEST AND OPEN WITH YOUR PAIN DOCTOR IN ORDER TO GET THE PROPER TREATMENT. IF YOU DO THAT, YOU'LL FIND THAT YOUR DOCTOR REALLY WANTS TO HELP YOU.
Use a pharmacy that doesn't accept your insurance or use one you've never used prior and pay cash. Otherwise all your duplicate fills will come up and they'll think you're "doctor shopping"...which I believe is actually a crime now.
If its a Triplicate yes. I'm surprised the
Pharmacy didn't say anything I've had Few tell me how a pill should help vs the other.Don't let them.bully you.Try telling him it's not working.
Best of luck.
Colette
Does your doctor give you a drug panel? My Dr does. It's supposed to be the law if you are on a controlled substance. If you have to take one, make sure you haven't taken anything in the last 4 or 5 days that you don't want you Dr to know about.
Just talk to the dr... maybe you have a good one that will do what is best for the patient.... who knows.... If you can stay out of an actual pain management clinic stay out.... I know of none that try to manage pain... They manage drugs & useless procedures that generate an income stream.
i dont think he'll know, and as long as you have refills and scripts you can get them both filled. But maybe you should try pain management b/c they could possible give you something to last all day and something for breakthrough pain, it can be managed better than you switching back and forth.
