My Doctor Has Me Taking Three 5 325 Percocet Every 4 Hours

I am a cancer patient and this amount scares me. I have never heard of taking three every 4 hrs. I have taken 2 before after my lymph node removal but never 3. Is this really safe?

Hi Desiree,

I can certainly understand your concern about taking too much Acetaminophen. 325mgs x 3 = 975mgs and then multiply that by 6 times daily (if taken every 4 hours) and you get 5850mgs of Acetaminophen - aka - a very toxic blow to your liver.

Prior to 2016, the maximum daily dose of Acetaminophen was marked as high as 4000mgs... As of now, the new maximum was brought down even further to 3000mgs, to ensure liver health isn't compromised.

If I were you I would not take nearly as much as was recommended; but I would encourage you to talk with the doctor about the idea of taking regular Oxycodone by itself at a higher dosage (with no Acetaminophen at all).

What the doctor originally suggested is not safe by any means and he should probably be fired for potentially putting you in danger like that.
