My Doctor Defended Me After Cvs Pharmacist Went Out Of Her Way To Call My Doctor

Updated

So I'm a 1st posting long time reader LOL but this is no joking matter. I live in MN and went to CVS to get my monthly script filled for my feytanal patches and 10mg oxycodone.

Long story short I was majorly addicted to pain meds and was doctor shopping for 2-3 years up here anyway I got arrested for Prescription Fraud but charges were dismissed (thank god). I am a chronic pain patient with over 18 orthopedic surgeries at only 31 years old. I played college football then in Canada and overseas professional until 27 years old. So I am legit NOT just taking pills for fun.

So with all that said; I was off meds for 60 days which was unbearable but after the 60 I found a pain management doctor who was very nice and understanding. I've been with him for 9 months now and have followed all his rules and regulations. He put me on fetynal patches instead of so many fast release short term pills. I take 2 25mg patches every 48 hours and take 2 oxycodone (10mg) a day. So the past 9 months everything has been fine.

So to the heart of the story, I went in yesterday to CVS to get my prescription filled. They never have the same pharmacist on duty so I dropped my scripts off and the tech was all confused why I get 30 patches instead of 15. The pharmacist said my insurance won't fill it and I've said it's been fine the past 4 months since my doctor changed gave the instructions.

So this very young female pharmacist calls my doctor and I can easily here and she goes on about my past and the doctor shopping, different address and how I was arrested. And she's telling the doctor she doesn't fill comfortable filling it but the doctor keeps telling her to fill it. I can hear keep trying to convince him to cancel it and my doctor is telling her to fill it. She was begging him and saying "patients will sell there patches, that's why he wants 30 so he can sell half of them". It's serious slander at this point....but she hangs up the phone furious and continues to fill it and calls my name.

So she goes into detail how she can only fill this script one time today but hinting she won't fill it again and I should go somewhere else without saying that. She said you've never came here and need to stay with the same CvS. I said I've been here the past 3 months and it's never been a problem, the only reason I come here is because the other CVS stores tell me to come here because you always have the full 30 Mylan patches and the others rarely have 30 in stock. She said I've never been there, I laughed and said I've been here the past 3 months go look it up! She's speechless, well now my wife is getting upset and is very professional and aggressively polite into advice what I should do now since I'm in the middle of the doctor and pharmacy.

She keeps saying the same thing how she will fill it this one time BUT that's it. So my wife says are you saying not to come here and she doesn't respond and walks away. My wife calmly is looking at her face as she stands there frustrated and she finally says you should go to another pharmacy because WE don't feel comfortable filling such a high dose. The pharm tech now jumps in and says he's on a low fetynal dose and only takes 2 pills a day. Why is it a problem!?!?!? LOL the pharmacist says nothing of course! My wife then says so then it's not the pharmacy? It's just you personally that doesn't want to fill the script. It's you as the staff! She says nothing! Lol

My wife and I smiled and my wife says thank you so much for your professionalism and caring ethical concern.

So I'm just embarrassed at this point and wanna get out the store since there is a crowd now that saw and heard it all!

But One hour later I get a voice mail message from the other pharmacist that was on duty and says he just wanted to clarify that I can still come to the pharmacy and hope I didn't take from the conversation to not come back after the female told me to not come back and find a new pharmacy. He then says with my past file depending on the pharmacist (basically the female dog) on duty may have to call my doctor or NP at the clinic to verify my script if they don't feel "comfortable"!! Wow so basically she had a problem with it! Not him or any other pharmacist or CBS! She went out of her way to try to get my doctor to cancel the script and even saying some patients will sell there patches AND pills on the streets.

Yes female dog the doctor knows about patients selling pills! He's been a pain management doctor for over 12 years, I love my doc and how he defended me because he trust me and knows I'm doing everything by the book!

So I just wanted to share my story and give advice like if you've had a problem with doctor shopping or addiction; and if you really need pain meds, just be honest with doctor and build that relationship and he will defend you even to the worst pharmacist!!!! Good luck and hope my story wasn't too long and helps anyone!!

P.S. I remember the female dog on the phone say, "NO THERE IS NO OTHER PRESCRIPTIONS nor DOCTORS ON THE PMP ONLINE....just you doctor"

It's just like that here in FL. The individual pharmacist has a lot of discretion. Too much OMHO. I doctor shopped for over 12 years. I had 14 doctors at one point. I knew there were "unofficial" regional database, so I made a record in a SS , and filled prescriptions in different counties (where I worked, where my parents lived, my own, and a close neighboring one), a continuous felon for 12 years. THANK GOD I DIDN'T GET CAUGHT. I didn't REALLY get hooked until the Internet, where I was getting vast quantities of OxyContin, Fed Ex'ed out of San Diego from a Mexican pharmacy. $100,000+, I finally dialed the employee help where I was an engineer. I was in a Methadone Clinic, for far too long (I think I've permanently wounded my natural endorphins pleasure centers), went on to Suboxone, and have tapered to 1mg/day, because even at that dosage it blocks other opiates, and keeps me honest.

GOOD FOR YOU THOUGH! You had a reason for doctor shopping, and luckily found someone who helped you, and you stayed with the program. Great job. I feel like a total sleaze ball. But ice always been plagued with chronic, but intermittent bouts of severe depression. It hurts, like mental nausea. For a certain % of people, NOTHING can pick you up faster than an opiate. Once tolerance sets in though, you've got a Triple problem. You either. Crease dodge or take the pills to feel normal, if you quit you'll get really sick, and when that's over, the depression will be twice as bad. I feel like SUCH an i**** that I could fall into it.

FL now has a controlled substance database. South FL used to have "pain clinics" with attached MRI centers in every shopping mall. Almost no one has a perfect MRI. So those are now all gone, but things have swung in the direction of encountering pharmacists like your "dog". Even filling out of county prescriptions can be a problem. FL was selling literally about 80% of the nations Oxycodone for a number of years. Walgreens got fined $18MM (I think, or more), for filling prescriptions "overly indiscriminately". ?? Were they legal? But what if a continuous stream of people keep coming from the same pain clinic with ungodly amounts of strong medications? Some pharmacists had a moral problem, others (Several Walgreens) just took the money. Yours was a slimy dog though. LOL

I had a problem with CVS a while back , I got my meds filled they were oxycontin 30 mg and oxycodone 15 mg ir when i was done doing my running around i opened the bag that was still stapled shut and noticed that my oxycodone 15 mg ir tablets were not a complete fill, so i counted them out 10 times , i called CVS and was told they gave me the correct amount because their bottle had the right amount in it. I then called my Pain Management Doctor and notified them what had happened and they said it sounds like the pharmacist pocketed the medication. they told me to take what i have as directed and when i ran out they gave me another to finish out the month notifying the state and overriding the last script.. I had nothing but problems with CVS and I know others who were having the same problem. Its sad , it comes down to buyer beware and make sure you count your meds in front of the pharmacist so they can not accuse you of taking 10 pills in an hour like they did me.
