My Adderall Experience: Worth It!
UpdatedI had ADD, no focus, all-day compulsive overeating, & night heartburn. Now, on 20mg Adderall upon waking, wait 1 hr to eat, then 20mg at 1pm (watch alarm) to get thru day. No other mental/emotional issues, stable life. It wakes up certain part of the brain, foggy/blank before. Used coffee but acid and tolerance buildup were problems. My pulse 60-66, & blood pressure 105/60 ideal, didn't worry about heart problems. Initially my heart raced and leg nerve agitation at night, but current side effects: Vision prescription (nearsighted) worse .25 ea eye, tried Oasis contacts for dryness, but silicon irritated eyes so back to Acuvue 2, wear only 12 hrs. Lightheadedness: always CAREFUL rising from laying, sitting or squatting position and avoid Adderall while on OTC allergy or antihistamine. Never fainted before, but fainted twice on Adderall, once stood up from squat position at Meijers for low shelf, fainted and hit my head hard and second time out of bed too quick, landed on carpeted floor with excruciating back spasm and bruised tailbone (2 mo. recovery). Even so, at 46 I feel great mentally, emotionally and physically. Went from 185 to 145 naturally (5'3") after yrs of failed efforts to stop overeating: juicing, protein powder, hospital program, OTC aids, TOPS, WW, OA, gym, walking outdoors, books, testing low sugar/thyroid, allergy shots, prayer, etc. My family doctor identified ADD 20 yrs ago, and supervised meds; several psychiatrists later confirmed it. But got tired of trying diff meds/dosing, feared side effects/longterm use so was on and off again. Done both lifestyles “busy 8-5 office” vs “low-stress work at home” but off meds I over think all day and not on what's in front of me, so back on last 4 years. Handful other drs diagnosed ADD in my kids as well, one also had depression (different part of brain) and put on Adderall in am, and antidepressant in pm. Overall it’s worth it, Adderall helps not self-medicate w/ excessive food, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine.

Hi Jeanne,
Glad to hear that Adderall has been a beneficial part of your life. Many posts on here tend to focus on its negative side effects and the withdrawal aspect when it comes to stopping or quitting altogether. But I think taking it the way you have and living such a clean lifestyle has probably made a world of difference in comparison to how others might be feeling on or off Adderall overall.
In my opinion you seem to be doing everything a healthy individual is "supposed" to be doing for themselves, such as exercising regularly, getting nutrients from fresh fruits/vegetables, maintaining low stress, not over-indulging, etc.. However when it comes to over-thinking and how you mentioned that it really affected you when you were off meds, one thought I have is that meditation might be a good alternative outlet for you to plug into? I find that when I begin to over think things, pausing for about 10 minutes to center my attention on breathing really helps balance out that edginess, so to speak.
Hope this helps!
