my husband takes hydrocodone everyday and the doctor says it is not showing up in urine test. he drinks lots of water and fruit can this effect the test

It may be the high fluid intake, that can dilute his urine and, in essence, it would cause his levels to be too low, which would be reported to his doctor just like a negative test.

At which point the sample should be sent out for better examination. This happened to me once, not enough of av sample to have it show up when they peeled back the thing on the b cup, but the lab was able to verify it was in my system

Yea don't drink a lot of water before you go in try juice an slow down on fruits . Unless you're tryin to make it not show up then I'd say drink plenty of water, or juices that are all natural like bolt house farm, naked them have fruits mixed In them. Hope this helps

I don't see what all the excited is about. Every now and then, I write a letter for a patient (after he signs z release) identifying him/her as my patient (my letterhead shows my specialty) "To Whom It May Concern" informing the reader that Mr. Joe Doe has been my patient for three years and I currently am prescribing Klonopin 1mg TID snd Ambien 20mg qHS for Panic Attack Disorder without Agoraphobia and Primary Insomnia. I got maybe two calls in 20 years.

Yes it can. I was accused of watering down my urine!! I was getting off Vicodin. I had so much in my system after years of it, that after a month I still showed positive. So they decided to check to make sure the AMOUNT in UAs was coming down. Not just doing false or neg test. They test the Ng (I think that's what it's called) like way smaller than mil grams or mg. So anyway each month my numbers were coming way way down. One day my councilor said the lab report said it appeared as tho my urine had been diluted with water?!
It still show hydrocodone in it like we expected but way less. I was so confused angry hurt AND misunderstood. The lab peeps don't know me. To them I'm just a cup of pee. Lol. So I demanded a blood test right then. Guess what? My blood matched my urine. HA !!!! So there! That PROVED I wasn't cheating. I almost lost my husband over this letter from the lab stating I was diluting my urine with water too! (I divorced his cranky ass anyway. Lol). My councilor / DR. told me to drink a ton of water. I did. So much my urine was looked ALMOST like water. Lol. I did not cheat. Treatment was MY CHOICE. HERES the other thing. If he is only taking a small amount. Make sure the test your Dr. is using is able to detect SUPER small amounts of the Medicine metabolite found in urine.

These urine cups do vary. If the drug kit cut off amount is 50ng/mL and his test shows 30 ng/ mL then his test would show NEGATIVE! That could be what is happening. Make sense? Kidney or liver disease can all give odd results. If he's only taking 3 pills day, the test they use may not test low enough to pick up what's left. The other thought, the week before he goes in to get tested have him drink 1/2 the amount of fluids he usually does. One more thing. U can order drug testing kits on the internet. They are way less than in the stores. Not like amazon or walmart or a drug store chain tho they r the same price as if u were in the store shopping. For instance HOME HEALTH TESTING, I don't work for them I just want u too see the kind of place to purchase. To buy 1 test for 5 diff drugs is 3.50! This is just a stick panel of 5types of drugs. Or a cup kit test for 13 diff drugs is only 13.25!! You would pay at LEAST DOUBLE that from a store. There r also hair or saliva kits too. Actually I just looked at amazon and a dip stick test for 10 drugs is only 5 bucks!! It's the urine cup tho, just the stick. So I hope all this info helps. I've had some crazy results with UAs. But figured it out EACH time. Been several. Stay diligent. Do ur homework. Compare. Maybe suggest the cut off level to ur dr too. I don't think he would be offended. Specially If you've known him for a while. Take care.

Have him offer his blood for a full to scan — and ouch until they agree to en EXPENSIVE tox scan (e.g., one that can tell hydrocodone from oxycodone. Where is your doc during all this? As I mentioned, I written letters for patients attesting to the fact that I am prescribing KLONOPIN 1mg QID for GAD and Panic Attack Disorder without Agoraphobia. I always often to submit results that "MY" lab found and, sometimes, they take me up on this. They've never taken me up on an sensitive and expensive test that's accurate to three decimal places.
