My Experience With Fentanyl
UpdatedI was in surgical intensive care for 5 days. The complaint was diverticulitis. My condition was potentially very serious but my vitals were coming back close to normal. I was kept in surgical ICU in the event the numbers changed which would require immediate surgery. The attack occurred at home shortly before I was to leave for work. It felt like someone had driven a knife into my gut and it brought me to my knees and eventually totally prone on the floor. In ICU the pain relieving drug that was given to me was Fentanyl. They would give it to me on request at intervals of one hour .. sometimes less if requested. I could see that there was about 1 CM length of liquid in the smallish hypo syringe. The effect was immediate. The pain subsided dramatically. When taken to a regular hospital bed five days later the pain medication was changed to straight morphine. By comparison Fentanyl was to morphine what lightning is to lightning bug. There were NO withdrawal symptoms from Fentanyl (in my case) that I can recall. This stuff is miraculous. I have jokingly said that I'd like to get the word "Fentanyl" tattooed to my inner arm so if I am ever in an accident and can't talk I could just point to it for the medic to see.

Hello, Tony! How are you doing? Sorry about what you've been through.
The reason why the Fentanyl worked better than the Morphine is because it's over 80 times stronger than Morphine, its much more potent.
And while it didn't cause withdrawal symptoms for you, it can be very habit forming and can cause side effects similar to other narcotics, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
