I used to take atarax 25mg for depression in 2010. It got better so I stopped taking them. It's now 2017 and my doctor put me back on them. I got a new prescription for the same milligrams but I found my other atarax in the kitchen cabinet. I'm wondering if it's still any good before I throw them away?

Most likely not, medications tend to lose efficacy with time, according to FDA warnings. Even stored in the original factory sealed containers, they are usually only good for about 4 to 5 years, less when they are in a bottle as dispensed by your pharmacy, since that exposes them to the elements that cause degradation, such as heat, light, and moisture.
Thus, it would be better to dispose of them, and pick up the new prescription.
