Multaq And Eliquis And Possible Skin Rash

Updated

I was put on multaq and eliquis in mid April 2017 after being diagnosed with AFib, AFib with flutter and SVT. My body adjusted well and there have been no side effects....until now. It's been 6 weeks since starting and I've developed a bad rash around my ankles that is slowly creeping up my legs and also affecting my hands and arms. Wondering if anyone on this forum is also taking multaq and/or eliquis and has experienced delayed side effects?

It is possible, although, a rash could also be caused by circulatory issues, or an allergic reaction to something, according to FDA and NIH reports.

I sometimes experience itching on my legs and feet due to how my heart and blood pressure medications affect my circulation... it can also worsen an allergic reaction, since when your blood is thinner, stuff travels through the body a lot faster than normal.

But you haven't been taking them for that long, so it is always best to have your doctor check it out to be sure. Is the rash itchy?

Are these the only medications you are currently taking?

Thanks for your response. Since posting my inquiry, I have done further research and have also discussed the rash with my dermatologist. Interestingly, what I did find out is that Multaq is one of hundreds of drugs that is very sun sensitive. I remember the day before the rash appeared, I spent about an hour sitting in the very hot sun. The horrific rash and itching have since disappeared and I am all the wiser to be very cautious and aware of the connection between Multaq and the sun. Google "sun sensitive drugs" for a long list of drugs users should be aware of.

Re: Mary (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

I developed afib 4 years ago and was put on Multaq and Eliquis. In the past year an itchiness has increased on my upper chest and lower back. I am now off Multaq and the itchiness continues to worsen. It must be the Eliquis.
