Mouth Sores On Chantix (Top voted first)
UpdatedStarting my third week tomorrow on Chantix and having the same problem I had with it a couple of years ago. About 3-4 weeks in, I start developing sores in my mouth. Mostly tip of the tongue, inside the bottom lip. Called my Dr. last time and he told me to quit taking the Chantix. I was smoking again within days.
I am doing so well on this that I hate to quit taking it, but really can't stand the pain from the sores. Any thoughts? Thanks

You should really contact your doctor, because the sores may be the sign of a possible serious and dangerous reaction to the medication.

If it isn't dangerous, they may be able to advise you of some way to treat them, or minimize the pain.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Let me tell you something. I've quite smoking and never had a cold sore. Which is weird since I was diagnosed with Herpes Simplex as a kid. NOT THE STD kind. I went without chewing for five months never had a cold sore. Got back to chewing then stated to take chantix. Within 24 hours I had sores with swelling all over my throat. With in 2 days of quitting Chantix I have no sores in my mouth and the swelling is gone. I've never in my life had a cold sore let alone multiple cold sores go away that fast.
I agree with OH REALLY!!! I have quit smoking for more then three months and NEVER had sores in my mouth. My MIL and I both developed sores in our mouth from using Chantex. I am glad to hear there are others who have had these symptoms. It sucks because the drug itself did help with my cravings and I really feel it could have worked. However, the sores in my mouth were very painful. I will never take Chantex again.
I am experiencing this and have a call in to my doctor now. However other than that I am so happy with the results of Chantix. I have smoked for 40 years and I have now been smoke free for 16 days and it feels good. Thank you so much to Chantix for giving me back my life.
Yes been taking chanticleer for about 3 weeks now and have a cankcr soar had them a couple years ago too while taking this!
Yes I am experiencing mouth sores from Chantex, though I continue to take these pills cause I really am determined
to quit smoking.
I'm glad to know others are having the same issues.....I was starting to think I had something serious going on inside my mouth.
I have been taking chanticleer for 8 weeks and my mouth and tongue are sore. Very painful at times
Chantix has dramatically helped me not want a cigarette. However, my bottom gums are swollen severely. They hurt like crazy. I was also experiencing feelings of hostility the first week on Chantix. This was not from lack of nicotine as I have stopped smoking several times before without the irrational behavior. The doctor gave me something to take the edge off and now other than the swollen sore gums I am doing great.
Re: Captain Obvious (# 2)
Yea, never have I had mouth ulcers when quitting smoking unless I have taken chantix.
I started chantix a year ago but had to quit due to another medication and had the same experience as I am now. Under my tongue is a painful mouth ulcers,/cankor sore. My Doctor mentioned salt water gargle but not that it's a side affect of not smoking. Believe me my doctor, like most blame everything on nicotine and wouldn't have passed up a chance to blame another ailment on my smoking. .
Yes! On my first day of 1mg dose (2 a day) I went to sleep with a sore tongue and throat. I woke up in the night with a bump on my tongue which has slowly reduced since this morning but it's still there. I took another just now so I'll see.

Verwon (# 1) -yes I have I thought it was caused by an e-cig. Stopped using the e-cig stop the Chantix stop the patch got well. Start Chantix again and the nicotine patch my mouth is getting sores again.. I guess it is from the Chantix..
Its always funny when people complain that the drug is causing a symptom that really is nothing more then your bodies reaction to not getting nicotine. Some people get canker sores when they stop smoking. Please dont be on here in a few days complaining that you have so much energy and cant sleep, or all a sudden you are coughing up a lot of stuff. Educate yourself on what happens to your body when you stop smoking
