Mounjaro Itchy Red Welt At Injection Site (Top voted first)
UpdatedI’m in my second month taking Mounjaro for weight loss. I am in the first month on the .5 dosage. On week 2 I noticed an extremely itchy red welt at the injection site on my stomach. Week 3’s site is the same. Is anyone else experiencing this? Should I be concerned? I have no other side effects.

Hello, Cindy! How are you?
You should have youf doctor check it out, to be safe, because if you are having an allergic reaction, it could get worse with time, and repeated exposure. Most administration site reactions are benign, so it may not be anything to worry about, but it never hurts to be sure.
The FDA lists other side effects of Mounjaro as possibly including nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, appetite loss, and abdominal pain.

Good afternoon. Let me preface this reply by telling you that I'm a physician/surgeon and prescribe a number of injectible medications for home use. Let me also say that what I am about to state that may sound somewhat bizarre. Two separate times in the past 5 years, I have had patients consistently develop a localized welt at the injection sites of their meds. I went through the usual process of med allergy, etc and both times, we actually discovered that those pts were the ones who were requesting an ultra small 31G needle. I changed them to a 30g and - across the board - their reactions immediately stopped. The only thing we could think of was possibly a coating on the 31G needles that wasn't on the larger gauges. I have no idea if another needle type is available for your pen or if you are using compounded tirz. but this could possibly be your answer.
Yes I do, like a big mosquito bite.
I am having the same issue. It didn’t start until my 5 the week. I asked the pharmacist, she said the redness and welp didn’t worry her but it is itching. She said it sounded like allergic reaction. I got to my primary next week. I will ask her.
Are you sure it's Mounjaro and not Ozempic/Wegovy? The reason I ask is because you mention the dose being 0.5 mg. Mounjaro is dosed 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, and 15 mg. Just a pedantic question unrelated to what you're asking about though.
So I had the injection sight itchiness with Mounjaro there for a bit (but not any of the other GLP-1 agonists I've taken). I don't know why, but it started well after I began taking Mounjaro and then stopped happening. I'm not sure why it suddenly started and stopped like that. It is a possible reaction though.
I'm not sure what to recommend for it, but definitely ask your prescribing doc about it if it's bothersome enough.
