My doctor put me on the morphine to try to wean me down from taking 4 percocets to 3. I took my first morphine at midnight - and I still feel pretty good 10 hours later. My question is, how is the morphine released into my blood stream? i.e. do I feel relief immediately - or 45 mins later and then every 1/2 hour or so more is released? Maybe this benefit of 10 to 12 hours relief will dissipate over the next few days to lasting only 5-6 hours? I meant to preface this by saying I'm taking the percocets for a laminectomy fail.

I was on MS Contin for years and stopped taking in April. Pm now has me on one 5mg Oxycodone. I did my urinalysis and it showed no oxycodone but came up for morphine. Is the Morphine still in my system, or is it a false result on a 4 RFLX test?
Since it is a time released medication, it is generally released by absorbing some of your stomach acid, or other fluids you drink. Think of it like a sponge that is very gradually absorbing fluids from one spot, and as it is expanding it's forcing the medication out of another spot. This is why, in some cases, people see the pill in their stool, and think they are not getting the medication, but in reality they are, their body is just expelling the shell as waste.
The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.
Not all time released medications are the same, but this is a basic idea of how they work.
Is there anything else I can help with?
