More Norco Shortages In Mi, What Is Happening?

I've taken pain meds for over 10 years, two years ago the doctor upped my script a bit from Vicodin 7.5/750 (d/day) to Norco 10/325 (3/day) but then last October I couldn't find the 10's anywhere (I prefer to get all my scripts from one pharmacy, a mom & pop shop I've been going to for almost 20 years). So kindly the doc switched me to Norco 7.5/350 (4/day) based on my pharmacy's suggestion. Now the pharmacy has been out for a week! I have no idea when my script will get filled and went to another pharmacy to ask an the said they aren't taking on new pain customers. I offered to transfer all my scripts there, only one is for pain but they still said no. Now what? Is there a shortage again in the Warren/Ferndale area of MI or is this happening across the country again?

Unfortunately, due to current DEA regulations, shortages happen every year, I actually can't remember a time when one hasn't occurred towards the end of the year.

Based on prescription demand from the prior year, each manufacturer is allotted a certain amount that they can manufacture each year, to help maintain better control of the supply of controlled substances. Once they reach that amount, they can no longer manufacture, and release new product, until they either receive a special dispensation waiver, or until they receive their new allotment amount for the next year.

I am sorry, I know this doesn't help you, I am simply explaining why this occurs regularly.

You could try talking to your doctor about using an alternative medication, or a different dosage, in the meantime.

Does your pharmacy have any idea when they might receive more, yet?
