They can be taken together to treat allergic reactions. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth.
The concern, however, is the white patches, since that might not be indicative of an allergic reaction. Can you post back and clarify what they look like? When did you start experiencing them?
There are various other issues that might cause such symptoms, including yeast infections, and dermatitis.
