Hi vonda,
Based on your description, I get the sense that you may want to ask your doctor about trying an extended release pain medication, for something that lasts a lot longer than 3-4 hours.
A few different options in that category are:
AVINZA capsules are a modified-release formulation of morphine sulfate indicated for once daily administration for the relief of moderate to severe
MS CONTIN (another variation of morphine sulfate) is an opioid agonist product indicated for the management of moderate to severe pain when a continuous, around-the-clock opioid analgesic is needed for an extended period of time.
Oxycontin (an extended release version of oxycodone) - to be taken twice daily or every 12 hours.
Opana ER (an extended release version of oxymorphone hydrochloride) - every 12h dosing is appropriate for the majority of patients according to nlm.nih.gov
I hope this info helps and wish you good luck on finding the appropriate medication!
I was on building, Norco 10/325 for years but last year I started with 15 mgs of 's Contin 1 pill every 12 hours and Norco s up to 3 a day doe breakthrough pain. Well I got up to 60 mg MS Contin 3 times a day. Doc offered oxycontin in place of the 's Contin, so far 1 60 mg MS Contin every 8 hours works for me and I know I have the option when needed to increase...I have chronic tension headaches from cyst on pituitary gland and hernations in L spine. I am blessed with a doc who s goal is to get me comfortable while trying diff meds...for legit problems and a good Dr. Help me to live life
