Migraine Pain Relief

Migraine headaches seem to be a trait in my family. My grandmother, mother, myself, and even my daughter...have all suffered from them, starting in early teen years. We have tried other meds but none completely stops the debilitating pain as Darvocet did. No, it did not stop or prevent the migraines but the pains were completely gone until the next dose was due...which allowed us to continue with life and work. With so many people the drug helped through the 50+ years on the market, why not bring it back with a heavy black box warnings? I feel bad for the handful of patients who died on it (though the Tylenol in it kills more a year) but for the many other people who used it without problems...why not bring it back?

Unfortunately, the FDA deemed the Propoxyphene in Darvocet, and its related medications, to be more dangerous than beneficial. It helped far less people than the number it harmed, which is why they felt it needed to be removed from the market, the risk outweighed the benefits.

The Propoxyphene was discovered to be cardiotoxic, and most issues arose, when someone didn't get relief from their prescribed dosage, so they took more and more to try to gain relief, thus, they also ended up taking too much of the Acetaminophen.

Given that there are newer medications available that are also safer, there are no plans to bring it back to market.

What other medications has your family tried for the Migraines? Have any other opiates helped, at all?
