Midrin Where Can I Get It (Page 7) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been taking Midrin for the past 10 years for migraines because I don't get any side effects from it and it works really well. Now all of a sudden the pharmacies in my area (3 of them) are saying that they can't get any or it is on backorders for the past 3 months. Do they still make it? I tried a different medication and it makes me really dissy so I really need to know how to get the Midrin. How can I get a presecription filled and where even in the mail would be ok.
Re: Catherine (# 128)
This is absolutely true. The mfg was sent a final “cease and desist” letter last month (google Midrin shortage and it’s the very first result)
So all that’s left is what’s out there. That’s the truth. Grab it while you can
Re: JJ (# 123)
Red die causes nausea? Heck, migraines cause nausea.
I am sorry to have to inform you of this, but that is correct, Midrin and other products or generics that contain these same ingredients are no longer available in the U.S.
The specific ingredients were Acetaminophen, Isometheptene and Dichloralphenazone.
The reason it has been discontinued, by all manufacturers is that this medication was actually never approved by the FDA. It is an old drug, that was basically grandfathered in, when their new policies went into effect, however, for it to continue being marketed, the companies that manufacture it must now do studies on its safety and efficacy. The FDA has started cracking down on these 'grandfathered' medications and many companies have chosen to stop making them available on the market. Their reasoning for this is unknown, but it may be related to sales of certain medications. For instance if they aren't big sellers, it may not be worth their expense to undergo the testing and approval process.
The only suggestion I can make is to talk to your doctors and discuss your other treatment options.
You can learn more about them and the FDA approved treatments here:

Are there any questions or comments?
Can you let me know if you find anything that works as good as Midrin. I tried Fiuroset and it made me really loopy and dizzy. Nothing has ever worked for my migraines and I have had them since I was a kid. I called the doctor to ask for Amidrine and he said none of the meds with the same ingredients in it are available any longer. So, the latest news on this website must be correct because of the lack for FDA approval. That really stinks because I never got any side effects from it.
I am also looking for the generic version of Midrin. It also works better than anything else for me. I see that it can be ordered at Pharmnet RX on their web site. I have just placed the order and must have the script sent to them, so cannot say with 100%accuracy that they have it available. check their web site out
Update: Found out today that generic Midrin is no longer available, so my pharmacist is foisting Prodrin on me, via my doctor. I really hope this works. I've been taking Midrin for three years now, along with Topamax, which still gives me 3-4 migraines a week, so Midrin is very important to me. The triptans never did anything for me at all, and fiorcet just made me loopy as heck. I hope to all that is good and well that this Prodrin works for me. Wish me luck all and wish us all luck that Midrin becomes available again soon. Here's to a pain free day!

great job
Suzanne, did you find out any "catches" for the Midrin, and can you share what pharmacy or the state where the pharmacy is in on have Midrin available? [[My Pharmacy (not a compounding pharmacy) has it!! Ready!! Yes - today I will find out how much it will cost. I know. I'm in shock! I will tell you if there is a catch but this is in USA... ]] I'll follow up with whatever happened when I go to the Pharmacy today. Wish me luck!!
Just found a generic at a Walmart in Madison, AL.
Get a clue, caffeine it isn't a replacement. If it works for you, then you never needed Midrin in the first place.
